It has been my experience that the only way to hold them in a certain spot once the sun goes down is lights. Once the sun goes down, the crappie scatter and chase bait. Light attracts bait and the crappie follow (or stay I guess). There is usually a certain time of the day when the brush you were catching them on during the day stops producing and you can almost count it down to the minute of when you will stop catching them.
