Lake is now 1 foot above normal. The COE cut the flow down to 665 CFS. The fish will be bunching up even more.

I went back to 36 bridge yesterday evening. It's hard to say the fishing was better when you are catching them on almost every cast. But it was because I didn't need to use the yak. I put on the hip waders and man was that less stressful on the wrist, elbow and shoulder. I caught them again on almost every cast. I caught over 20 before I caught my first undersized too. Only 4 undersized the entire evening.

This morning I launched the yak and headed up to the spillway. I stopped at the point where no boats are allowed past. I was targeting hybrids initially. I was using a sink tip line and a heavy half n' half fly. I just kept catching big white bass though. I switched back to a floating line and moe-beta and the onslaught was on. I hate to say the fishing got better. But it did. Not only was I catching white bass on almost every cast but they were those monsters we catch in the creek. Several in the 16 inch plus range.

When I got back to the 36 bridge around 10:30 AM there were 3 fisherman in the exact spot I fished the evening before. They had not caught anything except a few small white bass. It will be interesting to see if they come back in the afternoon or have all pushed up to the spillway with this lower flow.

Lake is falling a little over a tenth of a foot per day. Depending on if they cut the flow in half again or not we have about 8 days or so left. Lake is currently 0.86 ft. above normal.

I paddled upstream in Nails this morning. Lots of hunters going in and out messing up the water below the flag pond cut. I fished from above the cut to the trailway bridge and only caught one bass. I started working my way back downstream and caught one more bass and a bluegill before I decided to do something different. There were still shad in the creek but no bass activity at all. It was just dead.

I left and went over to Irwin bridge. The water was incredibly clear, it looked great. The fishing was excellent too. I switched back and forth between catching bluegill and crappie. The majority of the crappie were undersized. I would say about one in eight keeper. But the action was non stop and a lot of fun. As a bonus I caught a couple nice redear. I haven't caught many around Lake Somerville.

Curiosity got the best of me. I made a run out to 36 bridge. The fish were in there thick but they were all small. I doubt I caught anything over 11.5 inches.

Has anyone been up the Yegua through the mouth to Wolf Pond? I wonder how the fishing is now back in the creek. Itching to go soon.

Had the pleasure to fish the Yegua creek with J-Moe yesterday. In total, I think he probably caught over 100 fish - including a mixture of lmb, crappie, white bass and sunfish. I caught my share but not nearly as many. The crappie fishing was good at various spots under and around Irwin bridge. We also fished at the 36 bridge and had some luck with a couple schools of white bass, almost all of which were undersized but fun to catch. I forget the tally for each of us for white bass, so maybe J-Moe will recall. A guy across the creek under the bridge was tearing up the catfish with chicken livers. All said, a great day of fishing and hope to do it again this winter during the WB run.

It was a different world when we were boys and girls....

It was a great time.

It took an extra month but Fall fishing has finally reached full strength. I went back Friday morning and continued where we left off. It was non stop again until the wind picked up and the bp started falling. I caught a lot of undersized crappie, a 10 inch bluegill and a couple red ear sunfish.

I went out to the ranch ponds this morning and the big crappie and bass were biting there too.

It's one of those peak fishing times of year flame

I caught this crappie pond fishing this morning. With the mouth closed and tail pinched it was just under 15 inches. I mean barely. I couldn't stretch it. bang

Thanks for the report and video greenyak.

You didn't have to go far to find lmb, crappie and even bowfin. I can only imagine how good the fishing is around Newman's bottom. The Newman's bottom area is still closed to even walk in traffic right now. I'm finding crappie everywhere I go so it may be time to try Nails again.

I've never caught a bowfin. It would be awesome to catch one on my fly rod. I'm sure I'll catch one by accident some day.

When I saw 20 to 30 mph winds on Saturday I assumed you would have made other plans. You are a brave man to venture out in those winds. Me, not a chance. I learned one fault of my Native. It doesn't handle waves and wind very well.
