I've spoke directly with tpw lengthy conversation about Toledo. Basically not enough supervision of the contractors. Those guys are just doing a job and spraying is spraying. They ceased after it was brought up.

Do the spraying contractors use TP&W Fisheries dept. trucks to pull their boats?

wouldn't it be great if we could get the DNR of every state to be as enthusiastic about killing cormorants as they are about killing fish(grass spraying)....

DNR of every state has zero control over cormorants. They are protected by the Feds spec- protected shore birds. I could tell you a long story but the basic problem is how to remove them from the protected shore bird list and not screw everything (other birds) up OR [censored] of the Anti's. This is a well known issue amongst GW's and biologists for several years now. The other issue is what do you do with them after you kill them?

hate to disagree with you but if the DNR of every state would go to their respective congresssman and tell them the cormorants numbers are out of control, are seriously harming our fisheries and need to be removed from the protected species or whatever the hell it is....
it would also help if game/fish biologists would get off their rears and go out and see these unbelievable numbers of cormorants and pelicans on some of our lakes....
we got very similar situation with snow geese...difference is that typical of our DNR,they protected snow geese for years when everyone could see the population was exploding... the farmers started raising hell with the congressmen about crop damage and now they have a spring season with no limits and no restrictions on how you hunt them....after the farmers started raising hell, the DNR started looking for a reason/excuse to increase the harvest and they came up with that "destroying the the tundra at their wintering grounds" reasoning....
the difference between cormorants and snow geese is that we need to be raising hell with our congresswmen and maybe our DNR will get out of their offices and observe what cormorants are doing to our lakes....

SO what was the verdict? Are they going to keep poisoning everything green that pops up around the lake and keep telling us its safe and good for the fishery?

That's pretty poor on TPWD. Just send some guys out without training them on what to do with chemicals that will kill everything. That's really watching out for our wildlife and fisheries. I'm glad they stopped them but those spray trucks were parked at the rayburn facility not to long ago. I really hope they don't claim that lake and fork also.

That's exactly what the TP&W said when they killed all the grass in Lake Tyler in 2011. They claimed "lack of supervision of the contractors". They wiped out everything, lily pads, coontail ect. I was on the lake the day they were spraying during the middle of the week. They had posted a map of the areas to be sprayed in the local news paper. That map was nonsense. Seen what was actually sprayed with my own eyes.

I don't know how it all works but it seems that there could be something that could be done to put a stop to the spraying or atleast the ridiculous way they go about doing it. What I mean is what makes or gives them the authority to just go spraying chemicals widely wherever they please? There should be environmental studies and strategies that have to be followed and it seems they're just doing what they want however they want. How come they aren't being held accountable I guess is what I'm saying?
