This is now my daily carry gun. I can conceal it with normal clothing or wear it open carry: If I'm wearing something like a polo shirt & jeans, or tshirt & sweatpants, etc, then I wear the ultralite revolver (38+P). The best gun for YOU will be the one that 1) you can wear comfortable every single day, AND 2) that you can hit your target reliably, every time. Although I'm a proponent of big-bore guns, I'd rather see someone carry a 380 if they can HIT THE BAD GUY with it. Big bullets do no good if they miss the target.

I already own a S&W .38 revolver with hammer. Too big of gun to carry, correct? A good smith could shorten that to a 3",round the butt, bob the hammer, and it would be fine.....38 special +p+ 110 grain HP's and a couple speed loaders

I've said this for every "best carry thread" the caliber means nothing if it is at home cause it's not comfortable to carry.

Lot of posts suggesting that they are sure of their answer.... pretty serious topic so it's good to be sure you know what you're talking about

.38 or .380 how effective can you be in a crowded situation inside a larger building?
I know a .38 would be a great gun for a hold up, robbery, face to face deal....but over 10 yards away....man you better be lucky. You going to direct fire in/over a crowd inside a large building? You do realize that isn't how gunfights happen, right? Most will be at 15ft or less. The .38 will do just fine. If you're further away than that, you should be headed for the exit, not engaging a mad man, unless you are forced to do so. Only cops and soldiers are dumb enough to run towards the sound of gunfire huh?

But for the general public not trained in such matters... hide, flee or fight, in that order, seem to be the best course of action. Personally, I'm not the "flee" type as I've had to prove twice in my lifetime.

I have an H&K USP compact in .40 S&W and a small frame .380. The H&K has a manual safety which I like as there is always a round in the chamber and the hammer back. Low recoil with the H&K. I usually have a gun close to my hand at my shop and one in the truck during the day. If I need to carry I just wear a fleece over a Galco leather OTW holster in the winter. The .380 fits in a pocket.

I carry a Kimber micro 9 or my M&P Shield. I love both and carry IWB. After you get used to it you won't even know it's there. The key is to practice as much as possible until your muscle memory takes over. Practice the draw and re holster. Muscle memory is important because in a stressful situation it will take over and it will be a natural movement. Most important be able to hit what your aiming at and that only comes with practice practice practice. Pray you never need to use it.

remember the golden rule of concealed carry/open carry, if you pull and point you better be ready to shoot.
holding the bad guy for the leo sounds good but when the nut cuttin comes the fact is the bad guy WILL SHOOT YOU if you hesitate.
practice triple tap, one is fine, two is good and three will put just about anyone down.

I think a glock 29 is the best gun to carry concealed. It has more power than a 9mm or 380 but it's lighter than magnum revolver.
