Lose weight, even if you think you don't need to. I had surgery maybe 25 years ago. Not sure of the name but basically they took my tonsils, that little thing that hangs down in the back of your throat and any other excess material in the back of my throat. The recovery was brutal. Couldn't eat right for several weeks. Drove me crazy until all the stitches dissolved away. Had to be sitting straight up and take small bites and drinks or it would come up my nose. Not real sure if it really helped or not. But, because I couldn't eat right, I did lose about 40 pounds.

Try Simple Sleep Services. I couldn't do the Cpap. They fitted me with the Somnident device which is a custom fit oral appliance. My insurance paid for all of it.

I'm 5' 11" at 185lbs of sold muscle ( well not solid anymore). Haha. I lost down to 165 about three years ago and it didn't help my apnea.

I went from 230 to 185 and no help, had UP3 done(tonsils, adenoids and uvula and still didn't work. I use CPAP and that's all that helps

Saw a news report about a procedure where they insert a stiff strip into the uvula to keep it stiff. This holds it rigid and stops it from flapping up against your windpipe. Don't even have to put you under to do it.

I will say this....the sleep doctor I went too was a bunch of bulllark.
He looked in my mouth and said "YUP"...you have apnea...then goes into writing and drawing on a white board. Sad deal was the board had so much ghosting on it, I could see he was writing and drawing the same thing over and over again. He then said do you have any questions...I asked one and he excused himself. Lady at the front counter said my cost of the sleep study was $3500. I can go on a nice vacation for that! Said mine was so bad, I needed to be there after lunch for the "nap" then stay until night for the full sleep....once again that would cost extra.
I was going to write a letter to the state doctor board telling them about this guy....who wrote books on the subject...so he said. I was also charged $350 for that BS appointment. Where I was allowed to ask one question. Oh and his computers were down!
That sleep doctor was in Tyler. Avoid him if you can.
I fixed my sleep problem myself...it's called WORKING OUT AKA Physical Activity. I went from 2-4 hours to sleeping 7+ hours a night. Last night I slept 7:45 and my neck hurts cause of it!
