Happens a lot. I've caught quite a few 5lb class fish doing it. No 10s yet. No telling how many times it's crossed my mind to toss a crappie jig on a pile during a tournament to get it stirred up and then drop a big spoon in there. Big girl would smoke it or a big jig

That's exactly why you SHOULD fish finesse baits, finesse being 1/8 oz crappie jigs. Here's what I do. Fish a crappie jig to hook the crappie and then let the bass eat the crappie and reel him in on crappie gear. Technically you are just fishing with a crappie jig bolt I'm just kidding of course, but here is an accidental bass catch while fishing for crappie. Keep in mind I fished this brushpile for 2 hours with conventional bass stuff and it wasn't until we caught 10-20 crappie off of it that she decided enough was enough and absolutely inhaled this 12 inch crappie. Fish wasn't that big, 23 1/2 inches and probably 7-8 lbs. crappie got stuck in between her gills and I was able to reel in the bass. Bass was released safely back into the lake, but crappie were harmed in the making of this picture.

Not the bigguns. We had 12 fish for the day and the biggest was 5# but we are set to give it another whirl on 10/26!!

I'm not dissing finesse.

I'm just saying I believe true mammoth bass would rather eat a 28 oz Ribeye than a carrot stick most of the time. wink

Wrong color on those Basstrix, Ken. Yellow Perch is what you want for those lakes. Chartreuse Bluegill are good too, but the YP beats them all.

I agree with you Ken. I'm no expert or pro but , I do like chasing big bass here in my area of DFW and yes I have been know to throw a Drop shot 1% of the time but the other 99% I'm throwing a big 10"-12" worm or a jig that measures about 6-7 inches long. I don't get many bites but the ones I do get are giants!
