That looks like what my Dad called goggle eye perch. Are they the same thing? They are very fun to catch and strong fighters.

Thanks Jamie and Etranch for the replies. Jamie: Another name for Warmouth is Rock Bass. If that is the case I found an area saturated with Rock Bass. Etranch: Some anglers call Warmouth Google Eye!

Warmouth and Rock bass are actually two unique species identified by TPW. But you are correct, lots of people call them the same thing. I have only caught one Rock bass and did a poor job of taking the picture of it. It was clearly different from the Warmouth I've caught before. I've caught at least 3 unique color patterns of Warmouth.

I have never caught a Rock Bass. I have heard about them and seen articles on them.

Super post and fish. Good job Chuck. That is one fish that I do not catch many of. I think I have only caught 4 or 5 all year. What is your biggest Warmouth that you have ever caught? also what type of water body did you catch it on?

Thanks Curtis and Clayton for the replies. Curtis: My PB Warmouth was caught on the Salado Creek. It was almost 9" in length. I lost a HUGE one while fishing the Guadalupe River in the Kerrville area several years ago. It got off right at the boat.

I figured it was on the Salado! That used to me on pretty place to fish. Is it still? Have not seen any reports from the Salado in a very long time.

The Salado is not the fishery that it once was! Several sewage spills over the last several years have done it's damage on parts of that creek!

Beautiful fish Chuck! Love those gold colors. How would you rate the Warmouth bite this year. Do Warmouth prefer shallow or deeper water? Again nice fish.

Thanks Gitter for the reply! I was able to find some nice Warmouth this year. Overall I had a good year catching em. I usually catch Warmouth in 10 to 20 feet of water depending on the time of year. I have not caught many in shallow water!
