Ken Burns has done some amazing documentaries in his career and I expect nothing less of this tonight this is part one of a 5 part show.

Burns has done some outstanding work on previous docs. I'm going to record it and I'll reserve judgement until I see the entire series.

Ho Chi Minh dedicated his life to liberating Vietnam from the Chinese Nationalists and the French, but essentially succeeded in handing any of Vietnam's world political power over to Vietnam's historically most frequent and brutal oppressor in China.

I think what he really wanted more than anything was a Vietnam for Vietnamese only; much like Hitler wanted a Germany for Germans only.

Burns is a good. I've seen quite a few of his productions and the man knows how to capture his subject matter from an audio and visual perspective as well as any documenter out there. His digitally enhanced version of the civil war is outstanding as was his series on baseball.

I think the thing I like most about his work is his exhaustive willingness to seek out and bring in eye witnesses and historical accountants from multiple sides of the subject (not pushing any particular narrative) and allowing the viewer to form their own views and opinions on the facts each side presents. I'm looking forward to seeing how the Vietnam series turned out.

Definitely a leftist point of view. Making Ho Chi Minh out to be a hero, which he was not. Overplaying atrocities committed by the South and underplaying the atrocities committed by the commies. The producers pick and choose statements made by politicos about not being able to win the war. Totally untrue. We, those who had boots on the ground, all know we were NOT ALLOWED to win it.

Looking forward to watching the whole 5 part series, recorded the first one tonight. My dad was a Vietnam vet so the whole thing has always been interesting to me. Dad passed at 47 from cancer linked to agent orange exposure.

Plan to watch

Having served in French Indo China, I truthfully can not buy his totally leftest approach to that area during those troubled times,I had expected a much more truthful series.
