Just got back yesterday.
Fished the Lake Fork above San Christobal. Very low flows very clear and the fish are spooky.
Fish the deep holes with a 6XD tippet double prince nymph and a split shot.
The Cibola is fishing very good north of Deer Lakes to the wildlife management area. Caddie and mayfly drys or a medium stimulator with a bead head prince nymph dropped.
The Big Blue is also fishing very good. Same baits as Cibola.
Raining everyday and the first snow of the year was last Thursday night.

Big Blue is a fine stream. All Brookies near the campground, more rainbows and cutts down lower. From Lake City, go 11 miles north on 149, turn left on Alpine Plateau road (FR 868) and follow the signs to Big Blue Campground. Fish above the camp (south) for Brookies of all shapes and sizes. fish a mile or so below (north) to get bigger fish and deeper water. Might be getting skinny this time of year though. I was there 2 weeks ago and bugs were hatching everywhere.

Box canyon on the Rio Grande is also accessible right now. About a 2 mile hike below 30 mile campground. Great for good browns and solitude.

My advice - Hit Cebolla for easy access and good fishing. Go to Box Canyon for the experience. Go to Big Blue to kill a hundred brookies.

Hooking a fish is like playing string with a cat. The exact size, shape, color of string matters less than how you wiggle it- and little cats are easier to fool than big ones. John Gierach
