I did stop by a marine on my way home and he did say it was the lower unit took the bottom screw out and it had a lot of metal I guess it's possible that's the noise I was hearing but it sure sounded to me like it was coming from top of motor I took hood off and it got a lil louder

If the noise you were hearing was the lower unit failing, I would still have some concern with the compression values listed. I would have a leakdown test performed to determine each cylinders condition and whether a rebuild is necessary at this point.

Hydrotec is the most expensive place but IMHO worth every penny. I year warranty too. Saving money on boat mechanics is a really bad idea. Whatever you do, good luck.
