If they file a suit against you then you will need to defend yourself or the court will grant them a default judgment. That is the only reason I said "Lawyers involved anything is possible." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Default_judgment if I get a summons or whatever they call it I am not going to just ignore it.

I had a friend that did. Cost him a good chunk of change.

Why was your ex driving YOUR car?

Why was your ex driving YOUR car? It is actually her car. It is a long story but will try to make short. As part of divorce I paid off her Jeep Liberty. Daughter drove it for years because she did not like the Grand Marquis I bought off my dad's estate. Car was 10 years old with 15,000 mile when I bought it. It left my dad's garage about twice a week. I figured perfect car for ex. Problem is when it came time to transfer in her name she could not afford sales tax and fees. To get around that I transferred in to daughters name who was going to transfer to the ex.. I had to provide her insurance too for a while. Glad I got that fixed before this mess. Letter from lawyer was just something I had to forward to Progressive because their client is seeing a doctor. Progressive is not going to pay them anything until fault is established. I think lawyer assumes we are still married. Tempted to send them email telling them we are not and they need to send all correspondence to the ex. Of I will also provide her address. I picked up the car on Saturday and parked it at the house. Anyone want a 2002 loaded Grand Marquis with only 73k on the ODO? It does need a new 1/4 panel and a 4 wheel alignnment.

38 years as an insurance agent. In my experience, if the car owner and the car driver were different people, they both got named in any lawsuit.

That's what I've had beaten into my head by my uncle who's been an Allstate agent a long time. Whoevers name on the title dang sure is liable. His story to me was a client that ended up losing > $250,000 for a wreck that he didn't have a part in, just had the vehicle in his name.

Now she claims that the police report is not correct and she has called the officer several times. This has been going on now for 2 weeks. Typical of my ex. She just does not take care of things. Since I have booted her completely out of my life (except I still have her Yorkie) my daughter is on my case and is telling me that I need to bring God in to my life. I told my daughter that God is not going to fix this mess.

It got better today. Son told me the driver did not have a license. This kind of stuff is typical of the ex. A big truck sideswiped her once making a turn. He was obviously at fault but had numerous incidents so he wanted to cover it up. I asked her if she got the plate number. Of course the answer was no and what for. I said how else are you going to identify the truck. It figures that the day I sign the title over and transfer the vehicle something like this happens.
