I had a HORRIBLE day on Fork with a guide...ie...he was late, hung over, on his phone all morning etc. My buddy still tipped him $50....I couldn't believe it.
Oh, Joe Ford, in case you're wondering.
I think I used him once as well.

My condolences.....he came recommended by one of the "popular" lake Fork guides.
It was a freaking nightmare.

Definitely tip if you catch your personal best. 50$ is better than nothing. It just shows your appreciation.

The guides can only pray for the clients that tip 500-1000 dollars lol

Most personal service providers should be tipped.

Let me take this in another light. I am fishing by myself now and I will bear the expense of the guide alone. To tip on top of the regular day fee is starting to make it prohibitive to have a guide. Do you think the guides have a little understanding if the fellow is fishing alone tipping becomes burdensome?

I've tipped every time but once.....then, I didn't because he showed signs of expecting one. And he absolutely stunk as a guide, too.

What makes a guide different than any of us on this board that perform our jobs well ..or may go above and beyond?

100 tip seems a little steep when you have paid 300-400 already for his services. Are you talking per guy or in total? Maybe 25-30 seems more appropriate per guy unless the guide went way above and beyond. Then I could see 50.

I am a guide at Fork, I'm also an outfitter. This is the way I look at this subject. First off after a day on the water gas, broken equipment (with the mindset it's not mine), and the fact that myself as well as some other guides I know personally do not fish a standard 8 hrs, but more like 10+, we really don't make much out of the $450 a day we charge. My average that I clear a day during the summer is about $200 and that's if nothing was broken. Now as for a tip, I do not expect a tip, but normally that's what covers my gas for the next day so I can pocket a little of what I made the day before. So tips are great especially if we work our [censored] off. We have bills just like everyone else. Boat, truck, fishing tackle, and gas for both. Not including the million dollar commercial ins policy we have to carry incase god forbid something happens.
Rant over
