So this is a story from high school. The one thing I loved more than anything was my car, my ride, my wheels, my pride. Yes, it was nicer than what some of the teachers drove, and yes, I was quite crazy behind the wheel...but...I didn't ask to be offended.

One dude of a crew decided to show off and pour a can of soda on the trunk of my car on a hot Texas afternoon. Ha ha, funny!

Not to me. I found out who did it, and I went to work.

In a week, the power to their house was cut off, their newspaper was cancelled, their water was shut off, their phone was shut off, and, just as all those things set in, a guy arrived on their doorstep from a demolition company answering an inquiry about tearing the house down.

I hope pouring that soda on my car was worth it, because from what I heard, that dude got his hide tanned so hard it could be an umbrella.

It's nice to have friends who can help with retribution. Gotta be handy with the steel. Know what I mean?

This is an understanding by which I live my life as well - I don't go messing with people just to make myself look good. The payback can be severe. Ain't nobody got time for that.

Recently I've been reading about a lot of road rage. People shooting after what, some kind of insult? Shooting a gun is easy, it's quick, it's dirty.

No, if you want to get back at somebody who wronged you, don't be a Felon.

What I did back in the day I can't do now. It's...against the law...because they made laws against people like me. I wasn't even doing those things for profit or to actually cause harm. I was balancing scales.

From that kind of stuff though, I learned it's better to be a writer than actually do stuff. Use imagination. There's no going to jail for writing about what you'd like to do to some deserving punk.

That's the stakes I play with though - I better show good cards and meanings like O Henry and Mark Twain or I've got no business at the table.
