If he almost got you he probably wasn't really trying. Your running probably excited him. I would have gone to the front door and told them their dog had gotten out and almost bit you. Its probably happened before but they may not know what he's gotten into when out.

When my kids were barely old enough to ride their bikes a neighbor acquired dobie/boxer mixed breed dog that would run out and attack the kids when they rode by. The man refused to keep the dog fenced or tied. I took care of the problem by riding by on a bike. When that dog came after me I smacked it between it's ears with a broom stick, but not hard enough to cause injury. Darn dog hid under the house for three days. Never did chase any more kids on bicycles.

Choose a different route to run?
Stress less, relax more. Go fishing.

Tie a porkchop around your neck. When one gets after you, drop the pork chop.

Tie a porkchop around your neck. When one gets after you, drop the pork chop. I thought about this also, but some of the fat and drippings will render while he's running. He'll be smothered in pork juice; so after he drops the chop; the chop becomes the appetizer and he'll be the main course.

Not the dogs fault. But you should talk with the neighbors.

Not the dogs fault. But you should talk with the neighbors. I agree. I'm glad you didn't get eaten, or, worse, mounted, by a Great Dane.
