I have my iPhone 6 mounted in CD slot at eye level. I can see the display. Keep it simple. If I need to send details I pull off. Way way off. Don't wanna get plowed by a texting snowflake.

Sounds like you are doing it right, you should have no problem with the new law then.

There are 17 million more people in Texas now than there were in 1970, 12 million more than in 1985...not to mention higher speed limits, more truckers, and a LOT more construction. I've had a cell phone since 1992. I've been texting since 1998. Texting and driving is stupid. I use my Bluetooth to talk if necessary, but texting will wait. Voting is a right, driving on public roadways is a privilege, texting is a luxury.

I just passed a guy on northbound 75 around Forest texting and going 45 mph in the middle lane. It's an every day thing now.

Now cars are made of plastic. Cheaper and IMO not safer. Now instead of a single track 8....we have FM radio, XM, DVD players, ect. Cars then would go 80 mph.....now the gauge reads 120 +. Add a few more million drivers to the roads. Lot has changed IMO.

Are you saying cars today aren't safer than the ones RR was referencing in the 70s?

Depends on how you look at it. Do you like being in an accordion going 85mph or a tank going 55mph? I'd rather be in a tank myself.

If we really want to dive into this...lets look at fatality statistics from 1950 and 2017.

Today's cars are designed to be destroyed but save the driver. It's safer to have crumple zones in the frame, airbags every six inches, anti-lock brakes, three point seat belts, lane monitoring systems, etc than everyone driving five thousand pound steel tanks with just a lap belt.

But, yes, let's look at fatality statistics from 1950 and, to make it fair, 2016. You start.

Oh no, you started the debate. You proceed. I'm getting out of here.....too nice outside to sit around.

BTW my old 3/4 ton Dodge with the 5.9L Engine is a tank....you don't want me to hit anyone. Sucker weights a ton (not literally..so don't start that debate also).

Also those safe air bags? LOL! I had mine recalled on the driver side last year (I know on an 06 truck I still get notice, thanks Dodge!)....this week I just got notice the passenger side needs replaced(sent one letter and one email, they mean business). Safety First huh! smile I get to sit in the dealership and stare at the wall again.

Regardless of whether I'm driving my 3/4 ton F250 or the little Nissan Sentra, if I get hit by a driver who's focused on texting, it's gonna suck for me.
