That's the thing though. Nobody's asking you, You're just throwing it out there. The difference is Shaw gets paid.

but, I don't tell everyone that the 9 pounder last weekend was caught on a Diawa Steez XS paired with a Zillion 7'4"'heavy rod, with Seaguar 20lb InvisX, using a Trokar 3/0 hook and a StrikeKing weight, with a SPro barrel swivel, toting along a Zoom Fluke!

It IS different. He's obviously coached poorly in his tactics with regards to how to "drop em" during his limited exposure time. The better ones have a tactful way to get their sponsors or promoters some play. He just spews everything all at once. Making it seem like a mockery of the sport and promotion of the sports brands that support him.

No different than BASS or any of the other outdoor magazines. At least in a magazine you can just skip over the promos and scan the article to see if there's anything good in it.

I'm pretty numb to it, I know they need to push sponsors, all part of it these days.

It's in every single sport there is. It's not just bass fishing.

I see commercials in other sports but not whoring themselves out to unlimited products. I understands it pays some bills and I expect a little of it but when it is constant throughout the show, I'll just hit cancel on recording series. You see, what do I care of what product that they sell? They only sell them because they are being paid too so their "advise" is worth less than that from a used car salesman.

I have to laugh every time I watch a hunting show. The guy is dressed on full camo, but leaves all of the decals on his rifle for full view. Savage and Winchester are the worst.

I do "get it" though. I work for a custom shop that films everyday. I am obligated to mention the brands of certain things used in a car, if it was vendor accommodated. If it is customer "bought or owned" gear, it doesn't nessacarilly get mentioned, but likely shown.

You've won enough in tournaments to pay off your boat and add an ultrex and electronics to it??? impressive.

It must be working Bobby, there was a 6 page thread on here about nothing but flip flops. Damndest thing I ever saw on a fishing forum. Trying to figure out which fishing show they were watching.

I am a Senager. (Senior teenager) I have everything that I wanted as a teenager, only 50 years later. I get an allowance every month. I have PU truck and a bass boat, I am blessed.

Advertising is everywhere in the world. Everywhere. Facebook has over a billion users and tens of thousands of employees that wouldn't exist without advertisers. 95% of you are on Facebook.

It could be argued that the fishing market hasn't found the best way to influence buyers with marketing/advertising, but I think it's crazy to suggest that fishing somehow has more advertising than any other "sport" or activity for that matter.

It's too bad that we anglers can't appreciate the businesses that spend money to attempt to influence our purchasing decisions and basically be a part of our lives.

? Guess I don't understand what you mean. Are you implying that marketers of fishing products objective is to better my life?

Thanks! It was a very inexpensive boat, but sounds good to say I basically won it.

You should probably go elite! I'm thinking about it, i won $326 once. Shaw better start looking for a new job. Apparently you are a big time tourney winner, do you feel that you would win less money if you were using a shimano versus Daiwa or lews? Or are they really key to your huge tournament success?

I think that you missed the point. Yes, advertising is everywhere. For example, watch a football game. You'll get commercials throughout the game, I'll agree. You'll see signs and banners around a stadium, I'll agree there. What you don't see is between every play, the quarterback pull out a stick of chapstick or anything else and look into the camera and tell you why you need to be using it instead of something else. Next play pull out his energy drink and try to sell you on it. I don't mind that they wrap their boats with advertisers or any other more subliminal advertising. It is when they go from a fishing show, which they are selling you that you are watching and it becomes a full blown infomercial.

Why would I appreciate them trying to convince me that I need product X even though they know it is [censored] just so I can let them be part of my life and take my money?

There are fishing shows out there that keep it under some type of control and you can just enjoy the show and maybe learn something. I'm only talking about a couple of the shows in particular. My wife doesn't watch them but even she has noticed how bad some really are and commented on it.

It would be interesting (somewhat) to see what equipment they would use absent the sponsorship.
