Did anyone catch his show on Saturday? I was fishing, but recorded it and it was an excellent piece of work. His guest was Wally Marshal and they landed some beautiful crappie. They were both in town for the BPS Garland opening and found time for a few days of fishing, so that gives us a time frame for the show. They stated that the day before they fished Ray Roberts with not much luck. Then Jimmy stated that the todays show was on a lake near Garland, Texas. I thought, O' Boy, a Lake Lavon show! I do not believe there is a lake like that within 100 miles of Garland. First, the shore line was heavely wooded with hard wood trees. It also was hilly and rocky. The water in the lake was clear. And last but not least, they caught black crappie (and some huge ones). Lavon may hold a few black crappie, but all I have ever caught thre were white crappie. Jimmy did not misrepresent anything. My question is: what lake were they fishing? It could have been Fork, but I do not think so. Possibly, it was Broken Bow in Oklahoma. No matter where it was, it was a very enjoyable show. He and Rowland Martin are two of my favorite TV fishermen.

Probably Hubbard. I was at BPS the night Wally gave his crappie fishing presentation specifically for Lake Ray Hubbard. It was an excellent info filled seminar! Went over an hour.

Thanks, Wally! Great instruction!

If he did not say the name of the lake, odds are they were on a private lake. (aka Bill Dance and his phosphurous lakes)

That would explain the clear water and black crappie. Especially if he said fishing was tough the day before on RR.

Don't take ANYTHING you see on tv at face value. It's a business afterall...

The lake is a private lake in Anderson county, owned by a man who is well known for his bowhunting.

I'm betting it was Ray Hubbard..I haven't seen it, but I know Hubbard holds some huge black crappie, and I guarantee you, Wally has some good spots that he fishes on that lake. I would like to see the show.

This brings up an interesting question: Does the fact that they shot this show on a private lake take away from Jimmy Houston Outdoors? My opinion is that Jimmy has the best fishing show on TV and nearly always films on public lakes, as opposed to Bill Dance, who films nearly all his shows on private waters. He brings his cameraman to Garland for the opening of the new BPS and finds fishing tough at Ray Roberts so he salvages out the trip by going to a private lake. He mentioned that they had been to Ray Roberts, found it slow, and were at a lake near Garland. It doesn't matter to me, I thought it was a great show on crappie fishing.

I saw that. The "lake" had hardwoods standing in 37 ft of fairly clear water. Sho ain't no pub-lick lake round these parts with that much water on hardwood.

First and foremost they need to get a TV show out of whatever they do so I'm sure they could care less if they fish a public or private lake just as long as they come out with a good show.

Hey, it's a TV show. No matter what waters they use, they still give good tips and techniques - and they are entertaining.

C'mon now - did the fact that Pam Anderson ain't all natural keep you from Baywatch? wink

I sure don't blame them for finding a place to catch some crappie. I'm just jealous I don't have that kind of connection. smile

I don't think it takes away from the show. What it does is provide a testament to viewers that we (many of us) will not watch a program where the host isn't catching fish. We don't buy products we don't witness in successful action and JH is sponsored by companies who need him to show the products catching fish, not just running through the water.

I don't think the show, in any way, is meant to be an indicator that JH is a crappie master. We all know Wally is a crappie master, so there's no guessing. Jimmy wanted footage of crappie action and he got it, private lake or not.
