What's a go to crank bait for y'all guys for whites?
Saw 4 guys wading and spanking the heck out of white bass last Saturday. One guy brings up a 5 gallon bucket full of whites. Asked what they were using and he said crank baits. Well they were casting straight into those 30 mph winds, so I'm figuring a 1/2 oz shad rap.
What y'all suggest, I'm hitting it in the morning.

I went out to Yegua Creek Park to do some bank fishing on Friday evening. I was not allowed in to bank fish. They gave me a sheet of paper with a new policy.
NEW NOTICE 2017: Access will not be allowed in the park when campsite occupancy is 75% or greater.
The lady at the gate house said that is basically every Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

The bluegill are finally starting to move shallow. The topwater bite is also improving. There are some bass bedding and trying to run them out of the shallows though. The long ear and green sunfish have not showed up shallow yet. I've only been catching bluegill. I caught 2 of the biggest bluegill I have ever caught on Lake Somerville and in Yegua Creek. Both going close to 10 inches and weighing over 3/4 lb. People are catching lots of catfish and bluegill in the spillway. They are also still lined up along the lake side of the dam.

So is this the rule for all the parks? Won't be able to bank fish Birch Park if it is 75% full? I believe Welch is private and should be able to fish there.

OK, a little more research shows Overlook Marina (but not Park), Welch and Big Creek are privately owned. Website showed that Overlook Park is operated by the Army COE, is this correct? Did they say that the rule is for Federal parks such as Yegua Creek and Rocky Creek only? Nails and Birch are State operated so they may be exempt? Guess, I call the parks to find out.

I will not be going to Yegua any more to launch my boat. Yesterday they also handed me a note with the new revise rule. If I launch my boat at Yegua and envites friends or anyone to come fish with me they will not be able to enter the park. Only the actual car that's pulling the boat may enter. I think that is just a bit a little too extreme. I never had that problem at Welch. People at Welch would go out of their ways to provide for people's. I remember last year instead of just closing down the park to boaters because the boat ramp had flooded out they let us launch right off the banks. I will not be visiting Yegua anymore.

You pay $5 if you bank fish Overlook and $2 to bank fish Welsh. If they open Rocky Creek park they may institute the same policy but we'll have to wait and see.

The lady at the gate house said that is basically every Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Went there Saturday morning, lady told me same thing. Gave me a pass with the paper, gave the sad eyes, It worked, but it was a bust, the 2 night's of cool weather must of turned the bite off. Fished 2 spots at yegua park and all we got was small bait steelers (Fishing for cats). Ended up at overlook where I wasted $10 to fish off the concrete bank, same thing there, little nibbles and lost bait. No crappie action on the docks either. The wind is really being a pain in the butt.

Big D posted on the white bass section that the TPWD is stocking hybrids in Somerville today. Lake level is 238.6 and releasing 500 cfs. The parking lot at the dam has remained full with people fishing on both the lake side and in the spillway.

If i were to fish the spillway this weekend, would there still be adequate flow? Any recommendations on baits to catch some hybrids? how do yall go about not getting your lines stuck in the current?

I moved from the lake, giving up my best bank fishing spots since you spoke of the dam, here's my best spot. . Park in far SW corner at spillway parking lot. Walk down the hill and cross the road towards the main lake.when you near the water, head along the edge towards the dam 15yds or so. There's a mud flat normally 4' deep that the channels flock to this town me of year. 2' up a cork and cj's shad or crawfish punch bait. Best at daybreak because of wind. Once sun comes up you may have to switch to a bottom rig. IF THE WAVES ARENT FIGHTING YOU,the wind direction is wrong and you may not catch any. Wind in face rule applies. Don't go to far towards the intake or you'll be in deep water and you won't catch the channels. Need some grass line nearby. Stay in the 2-8'. Bring 2 stringers because 25 channels on 1 is too much.

Crawfish tails are one of the most effective baits. Live shad works as well. For artificial, large swim baits work well. The dam will probably be still flowing 500 cfs this weekend. I've caught them with no flow on a couple of occasions. I catch all mine on my fly rod.

What bait are you using? Live shad and medium minnows are good for most keeper fish behind the dam.whites,striper,cats,etc. I was shown this rig a while back. Passing it on. Heavy bronze #8 hook(I only found in those plastic circle assortment packs or snelled pack) yes small #8,it is way strong enough, come up a foot and add a split shot, come up another foot add a split shot and again if water is fast. Hook your bait under nose with barb coming out on top. Now you can fish like a weedless rig, toss to edge of current,it will drop to bottom and weights and bait will be facing the current and flutter while slowly working its way down the current. Very seldom snag anything. If you are thinking of using stink bait, stay on south side of river and walk your way down. You won't really find deep water, just fishy spots. Mostly 4-5'
