Does it damage the fish's mouth? The new ones don't TH marine makes a new no puncture set, cal coast has pretty slick ratchet ones that don't come off.

I slide the clip through the gills into the mouth. Is that wrong? Can it damage the gills when you pull them out?, would think that would be worse and would just go ahead an punch a hole in the lip.
