I'll keep it quick. I was at that spot one morning at daybreak. Channel cat were feasting on shad in the shallow grass. Boom boom boom. Couldn't fish with 2 poles,They were so aggressive. I had a lot of fish on my stringer and some Houston boys came up on a boat to see what I was catching. They were chunking slabs for whites. I wanted to leave but didn't want to show my stringer to them. When I had my limit, I had to go. I pulled that 15' saltwater stringer out and those boys flipped out. Like catfish always do,they twisted and flopped so I had 6-8' of fish. I couldn't hardly carry it. Looped it like a garden hose and left. Would have made a great picture or video.

I moved from the lake, giving up my best bank fishing spots since you spoke of the dam, here's my best spot. . Park in far SW corner at spillway parking lot. Walk down the hill and cross the road towards the main lake.when you near the water, head along the edge towards the dam 15yds or so. There's a mud flat normally 4' deep that the channels flock to this town me of year. 2' up a cork and cj's shad or crawfish punch bait. Best at daybreak because of wind. Once sun comes up you may have to switch to a bottom rig. IF THE WAVES ARENT FIGHTING YOU,the wind direction is wrong and you may not catch any. Wind in face rule applies. Don't go to far towards the intake or you'll be in deep water and you won't catch the channels. Need some grass line nearby. Stay in the 2-8'. Bring 2 stringers because 25 channels on 1 is too much. Great information, I think I met you in that spot while I was fly fishing for bluegill. Did I have 2 stringers of catfish? Nope, must have been mistaken. I got a similar story from a fisherman in the same spot. Maybe they will take a fly. I'll have to give it a try. Thanks again for the information.

Dustyn did a miraculous job heading that to keep hybrids stocked in Sville. It'll take few years for us to find and fish those guys. Until Then I'll continue picking out the biggens. 😜

when you mean walk towards the dam, do you mean walk towards the intake area of the spillway? like once im at the main lake, facing the water, walk right?

It's a sand bar that formed. It then got washed out again. The 2 floods changed the creek quite a bit. The trees cover the lower end of the creek now too.

Just FYI, The dam parking lot has been closed all week for maintenance on the dam. I'm not sure when it will reopen.

The bluegill have finally moved shallow in good numbers The males were building nests and chasing each other around this week. I walked the shore line and tossed my fly on top of the grass along the first drop off and caught about 20 or so on Friday evening. I still haven't seen the long ear sunfish come shallow yet. The white bass fishing continues to be on fire on the main lake. People were lined up on the banks along the dam and Welsh park yesterday. I went out yesterday morning in the kayak. When I launched the yak there were millions of shad sparkling the water along the shore line. I fished along the bank for about an hour and didn't catch anything. I worked my way back and finally got into a school. I caught 3, got broke off by a big hybrid, and then the northern hit. I caught a 4th and the wind blew me, the fish, and the kayak into the bank. I couldn't paddle against the wind so I had to drag the yak back to the truck. I'll be looking for a few calmer days to try that again. The parking lot at the dam is still closed. There were a few people that parked on the circle on the other side of the emergency overflow and walked in below the dam to fish.

Did pretty decent at the dam, I parked at the loop further down since dam parking was closed off.
Caught 5 Catfish on rattle traps, smallest going 2 lbs biggest being well over 10lbs.
Caught several buffalo, Gar. SOmetimes foul hooked, sometimes in the mouth.
Saw 2 hybrids get caught, Im pretty sure i had one on, but broke off.
Also caught 1 HUGE crappie off a jerk bait, and 2 LMB.
Saturday morning, 800CFS out the dam, nice cool weather.

Gonna creep around the Yegua Saturday to see what might be lurking around the creek. Hope to find some bass, crappie and sunfish.
