It is nearly impossible to police that lake - just too big and too many homes/camps on the water. Bottom line is that an 8 fish limit is just too many. Biologists tell you that a reasonable harvest doesn't hurt the population but T-Bend has the largest harvest of any lake in Texas (and that is based on surveys conducted on the TX side only).

I have a friend from La, and he is a keep em all kind of guy. which is why we don't fish together, but he has told me multiple stories of "we used to load the boat with 5 lbers" at so & so lake....But now complains the same fishing holes now are hard to catch more than a couple a day. He blames it on "tournament guys" and don't bat a eye at all the fish him and his other La kin have taken out of the lakes...

Throw a few walleye fillets in the cooler next time you head out. When you see someone with 5lbers heaped up on the deck pass him one with a smile. You've just educated a man. Problem solved.

Where in LA can you catch walleye? Those guys aren't going anywhere when they can catch bass and crappie and catfish at home...

This is the one that always gets me. I do think tournaments kill a lot more fish than anybody realizes with delayed mortality and just simple poor fish care but I've seen hole after hole or area after area get fished out every summer by people that keep fish. They go get a limit in the morning then one in the evening. As long as they only keep what's legal I have absolutely no problem but I admit seeing a 5+ going in the cooler just makes me shake my head.

I was just being sarcastic. It's just amazing to me people eat them given their quality as table fare. Different strokes for different folks I guess.

I agree but it's a lifestyle, you eat what's available. There's no changing that.

Time to turn some of these guys in, otherwise this thread is meaningless.

Undoubtedly the best lake in the country. Fast forward to now and added pressure, not only do you rarely see females you also don't catch as much as last year. They go hand in hand. You can go to Rayburn and see hundreds of fish and catch a ton. They have to go to the bank eventually and Toledo just simply is lacking the numbers of quality it did. Biologist told me 70% of all keepers are kept on Toledo. No way possible a lake can sustain itself with that many fish now being taken out. Rayburn is around 25% taken out. Yes there will be spurts of good fishing but nothing like it was. Hopefully the grass rebounds and the haygrass from the spraying. Definitely going to lose a class of fry this year.
why do you feel there are so many going home out of toledo bend and not that type of number out of rayburn? most certainly any lake regardless of size can only sustain a certain amount of harvesting. falcon is a great example. between fishing pressure, harvesting, lower lake level, and alligator gar, it all took a toll. higher water level and a few very good spawns and number are coming back up. everyone has to face the fact that most lakes are older and fish are going to change habits. we also have more numbers of fisherman every year, and still have the same amount of lakes to fish in. at least we are not quite as crowded as fishing in japan.
