I haven't read many good reports on Toledo in awhile. I usually take one yearly trip with 10 good friends to Toledo. The trip was this past Thur-Sun and I had to miss this year. From what I heard, the fishing was absolutely terrible.

Did anyone have a good trip last Thu-Sun? Is it time for Bassmaster to name another "best bass lake in the country"?

It's 185,000 acres. I doubt it.

It's the same scenario as last year. Toledo was slow the first part. Then the Bassmaster Pro's showed up and after that the fishing was better when everybody followed the Pro's and fished those spots. It's a seasonal thing. Toledo has typically been better as a late spring lake.

It has impacted that lake without a doubt. Between that and the lack of grass this year, it's fishing much tougher for a lot of people.

No way.... I heard of a bag weighed at a tourney at fin n feather at 40 lbs+.....the basschamps event in February had 20 limits of 20+lbs....

We all know the fish are still there, but I think all the boat traffic tends to educate the fish and makes them much tougher to catch up shallow. The guys that know the deep spots probably aren't as impacted as the shallow water fishermen. Since we don't fish it very often, we don't know too many deep spots.

Maybe we should schedule our trips to Toledo in early May after all the spawning crowds have left.....

54 limits over 20 lbs to be exact... Fished there a couple weeks ago and it was tough, though we managed a 9 and a couple 4's. Sounds more like the lake being a bit low right now and them spraying all the hay grass is just making it fish a little tougher for the masses. It's proven to be cyclical lake over the years and will rebound just fine when it fills up and the grass comes back.

We have had our place there since 1972. The lake always rebounds, you also have to change your tactics when the grass is gone. T-Bend is a great body of water and someone is always catching them there.

fish are like big bucks when the pressure is on they go into hiding until they absolutely have to come out. just have to keep fishing

We were there those exact days for our annual trip and stunk it up also. Best day was Friday with the wind blowing 25mph. Had 10 fish in my boat with a five pounder. Saturday every creek I pulled into had tons of boats and we only caught a couple of fish all day. Looked like some of the creeks that we normally do best in have been sprayed recently. We did find plenty of grass in certain areas though. It also looked like some of the grass on mainlake stuff in ten foot of water was starting to grow again. There just wasn't many fish shallow and it looked like most of the spawn was over.

Absolutely the lake is going downhill. This is coming both from guides and my own eyes. The amount of bass you would see spawning the past 4 years was unbelievable. Undoubtedly the best lake in the country. Fast forward to now and added pressure, not only do you rarely see females you also don't catch as much as last year. They go hand in hand. You can go to Rayburn and see hundreds of fish and catch a ton. They have to go to the bank eventually and Toledo just simply is lacking the numbers of quality it did. Biologist told me 70% of all keepers are kept on Toledo. No way possible a lake can sustain itself with that many fish now being taken out. Rayburn is around 25% taken out. Yes there will be spurts of good fishing but nothing like it was. Hopefully the grass rebounds and the haygrass from the spraying. Definitely going to lose a class of fry this year.
