Seems like I was about on point. Spent about ten years driving all over North Texas for work. I learned which parts I won't to be done at before dark.

Up around the Forest/LBJ area seemed to have declined at a more rapid pace after Katrina. Lake Highlands used to be a pretty nice area. I think the worst parts of Lake Highlands are around Royal and Abrams up to Forest. And over at Forest/Aurelia/Skillman. That's a pretty brutal triangle to be in. Hated going over there. One place we never went alone was Melody Lane. Which is a couple blocks east of Greenville just north of NWHWY. Those people over there are flat out crazy.

I was sent to do aome work around the 175& Buckner area. I walk in to the breezeway of this apartment building. Get greeted by about 5-6 nice gentleman who were really concerned about me taking the rest of the day off. Conversation went about like this. Where you going white boy
That apartment right there to do some work
No you ain't
Yeah got the key right here
I said you ain't working here today
Fair enough, ya'll have a good day.
I went out to my truck and called the bossman. He was an old miser, that was more worried about that $300 job. That conversation went like this.
We're going to have to cancel this job
Why
Because there are several large black fellas in my way that said they didn't want me working there, and I'm inclined to listen.
Go to the managers office, and have them tell those men to let you through.
Not gonna happen Bob. I'm pretty sure they call the shots around here.
(Getting really short with me) wait right there. I'll call them and handle it.
Call them all you want. I ain't going back in there. Since I'm by myself. Nobody is going to watch my back while I'm working.
(In a sarcastic tone) I guess I lose that revenue for the day.
I guess you do. You don't pay me enough to get shot. And your $300 tub isn't worth my life.
He hangs up. I drove off. He was pizzed about that for about a week. Myself on the other hand didn't give a damn if he was mad or not Let me know if you need a new job.

Seeing as how I've worked patrol in 90% of the city, I can safely list them.
1) Forest & Audelia 2) West NW Hwy & Webb Chappel 3) Literally everything south of I-30.
The Forest & Audelia is responsible for almost 20% of total violent crime for the entire city. That's mainly due to the population density. Same as #2.
Everything south of I-30 is gang ridden, it's dangerous if your a part of it. Very rarely does a complete stranger ever get killed by a complete stranger, typically a robbery gone bad.
At least that's what I e seen over the past 11 years of working the streets

The company actually changed hands since. But you do have my attention. I'm always looking for a way to get back home. If it were just me. I would have already been back. With a family, I just can't come back and wing it.

lol. I work in that lake highlands area. we see come cool stuff in the emergency room. I get to xray it! LOL! Holy [censored] this made me laugh way too hard. Sorry. Spit take level though. For reals. I've heard about Skillman / Audelia and been there during the daylight. Most places need a place to scrap, right? Yikes. I do know somebody who teaches Anatomy and Physiology to Community College students - some working to become Dental Assistants, Technicians, etc, so they HAVE TO DO WELL at the first step on the ladder. I get the feeling you'd make the most [censored] hilarious guest speaker / Trivia game host for an audience. Keep up the healing work for real though haha thanks again for sharing.

Reason I was asking is I grew up in SW Oak Cliff, some 45-50 years ago and havent been back since and was just wondering where the worse spots were now.
Some areas of this thread surprise me, they used to be nice areas while others were always places to get killed.
Lake Highlands area? Man that was a nice part of Dallas and now it sounds like the hood.
What about Oak Cliff? I havent seen much mentioned here about it, got to be pretty ugly brutal area now, right?

Really depends on what part of Oak Cliff. Kessler Park has never been real rough. A little more south is where it starts getting wild.

Im talking the ground zero's for robberies, murders, car jackings, etc etc. Places where you wouldnt want to stop for gas at 2 in the morning. 1. Kiest & Polk 2. MLK 3. Hatchet 4. West Dallas (Singleton & Hampton) 5. Pleasant Grove 6. Bonus Lamar Street FYI: Most gas stations won't be open that time of the morning due to the fear of being robbed. The only place that would be open is 7-11, but that's due to their moto to open 24 hours.
