I can honestly say I don't know what "catching buffalo" means.
What is a "buffalo" when it comes to fish?
...------ It`s a boney fish but It`s a good fish to eat also.Can I get an Amen?

So a buffalo is "not" a carp, and you can eat them, correct?
They are predator fish, therefore you catch them like bass as they hit the bait, and they do not scavenge off the ground like carp?
...------

...------ They are not carp. And although they will hit a lure from time to time they are mostly caught on bait. They feed like carp. Google em up. Also check the carp/rough fish section. Lots of good info in there. With pics too!

I may be wrong but I am thinking White Rock Lake is like Bachman Lake. You can take a boat out on it but you have to use your trolling motor to get around, This is correct. That`s what I thought Reggie! I have been on this lake and Bachman with an 8fter with a troll motor before but I was about to get excited and pull out the big one. You can have an outboard up to 10.5 HP. If it is bigger than that have to use the trolling motor. http://tpwd.texas.gov/fishboat/fish/recreational/lakes/white_rock/access.phtml

...------ Buffalo are primarily caught using bottom techniques, but i would not go as far to say they are scavengers (neither are carp for that matter). They are opportunistic feeders yes, but they at times have preferences. There are alot of insects and organisms that live near or on the bottom that carp/buffalo/catfish feed on. Having said that, they are quite the treat to hook and land, and a real challenge if you choose to use light gear (less than 10lb test).

Aren't Buffalo like carp where there are Y bones all over the place? What's the "savory good meat" on them?

Eric Are they Boney? Yes they are. Does that mean the meat isn't savory? No far from it. They have a very good meat that's why they are very well commercially sold fish in the south. Having said all that the rib cage is very good if you want to avoid lots of the y bones as the rib cage bones are like rib cage is on other fish except it bigger so you get a lot of meat. Also for the rest of the fish body you can actually steak them up and when you get ready to fry them score the meat fairly deep in between each bone which is easily done with a fillet knife. When done this way when you deep fry them the bones are cooked and crunch up with the rest of the meat so you don't even notice them. Same applies to carp.

How about some current "2017" updates on White Rock Lake?
I lived near there for 20 years, and never fished it once. I rode bikes around it.
...------ in the late 70's and early 80's I rode two laps in the morning before school and three laps after school. I walked the banks of WRC a couple of weeks ago with my son, we caught around 8 small bass, nothing over 14 inches, and a couple weeks before that a dropped my boat into the lake and fished the west bank from the main ramp south to the old boat house and then back, caught around 12 with the largest being about 4 pounds. All on spinnerbaits, in and around the reeds. What HP is your boat? its 150hp, but it is never fired up. the boat is floated off and trolling motored on. been doing it since 1995.

Folks use to buy Buffalo from the local fish market back in the 70's. We called them adult fish because it was unsafe for kids to eat them because of the number of bones. My folks use to eat them all the time. Once I saw a live one I had no interest in frying one up.

in addition to the buffalo carp, there are freshwater drum in WRL and they will nail chatterbaits and small crankbaits. you will think that a lake record in on!
back in the 70's growing up on dixons branch, we would snag big carp with an ugly stik rod, zebco 33 reel and a huge treble hook. there were plenty of times i thought i would be pulled off the bank and into the creek.
