I might try to make a run up there sometime this week. Any suggestions on where to try after these rains? Place must be a mud pit right now.

Quite a few whites are being caught at the spillway. Mostly 10" males, but a few big females mixed in.

I'd say it's about to bust loose up in them creeks! Lots of activity in Nails Creek this evening and to my surprise it was the clearer of the three (cedar, Yegua and Nails)

I fished the Yegua this morning, Tuesday. I started out walking the WMA upstream from Irwin bridge, gave that about 45 minutes with no success. I checked in at the Irwin bridge self pay and parked at the lower parking area. I fished and walked and walked and fished downstream to about 1 1/2 miles and caught zero white bass. I only saw one other person, a nice guy fishing the other side of the creek about mid point between Newman's bottom and Irwin bridge. We talked at length, yet I did not catch his name. He had one white bass on his stringer. I walked and fished and fished and walked every inch back to the parking area with 2 LMBs total. The guy I talked to is from Hockley, just down the road from my place in Fields Store, if you read this please reply or pm me...Lawton

What time does Welch park open on weekdays? I don't think they lock the gate so if you arrive early you can pay on the way out or they might come by and remind you to pay.

Thanks HLS! I have my wife going with me tomorrow so I need some easy bank access. I got her talked into arriving before sunrise so hopefully we can get into something. I guess if we don't have any success by 8 or 8:30 at Welch we will make the trek down the hill at the spillway. There is always something willing to bite down there.

Or welch toward Apache hills should be great. Water's still cold, better take waders. Chunk rattle traps till your cooler is full. I bet it's time. Live shad lip hooked is also hard to beat. I sure miss that mud hole. Good times and tight lines

Its been tough fishing this season near Irwin. We walked into Newman's this afternoon. The water was up about 2 feet, flowing faster and much more stained than it was this weekend. We only fished for about 30 minutes, had no luck, so left. I plan on going back on Friday. I hope it clears up some by then.

Anybody ever stood on that island at Welch and fished off of that? I was thinking of using my little kayak to access that spot if the other good spots are claimed by the Katy express

I walked to Newman's Bottom this morning and got 4 white bass. Water still up about 2 feet and running to fast for how I like it. Maybe about right by Friday J-Moe, but it depends on the rain the next few days. I think I should have went to The Slab today.

Most of Birch Creek state park is still closed. The boat ramp is closed. Only a few camping sites are open and the part of the trail that is open is only open to campers. Google the parks and you can find out there status.
Facility Closure Alert . . . less info Mar. 3, 2017 - Cleanup from flooding is ongoing. * Birch Creek Unit: Some campsites and some trails are open; the boat ramp is closed.
