Last week I made the trip to Garner State Park for their last trout stocking for the season. I have fished the park in the past but it was all during the summer months. This was the first time I fished there for the Rainbow Trout. I limited out long before the stocking truck arrived. The Frio river flows through the park and the water is crystal clear. Saw a lot of top water activity. Started fishing with a gold Super Duper and did not get any hits. I then switched to the Berkley Trout Bait-cheese colored and "Game Over"! I limited out in a little over an hour way before the truck arrived! I also had several get off after being hooked. The highlight of the trip was the people I met fishing. Had a SUPER time. I left as the truck arrived! The next night I had a FANTASTIC trout dinner that included some fresh garden tomatoes! Trout fishing the Frio River and meeting some super people not to mention a FANTASTIC dinner! It just don't get any better!

How did you limit out before the truck arrived to put the trout in?

I'm pretty sure he has a comfy chair on top of the stocking truck. He just opens the lid and casts away.

Thanks Johnbutte and coolpix9 for the replies! This was the third and last stocking for Garner State Park. The trout I was catching were from the prior two stockings. The fish have a lot of river to roam in and do not get caught out very fast. The people I met were also catching a few! Super nice place to fish with excellent scenery.



Side Note: I love the idea of coolpix9 about fishing from the stocking tank!

What a great post and great photos. Though I now live in east Texas and it certainly has its charms: pine trees, lakes and ponds everywhere, some of these little oasis-like parks in more open settings are just so lovely.

Enough so, I want to make a trip to see it for myself!

Nice post Chuck. Looks like a nice place to visit. Is that the only area to fish there? Also how did the Frio River look in that area?

Thanks Gitter for the reply. There are several places to fish in the park. The Frio is in great shape and the water there is crystal clear. During the summer I figure there are a lot of swimmers who will take a few fishing spots away. Further down river from the dam there are some deep pockets.
