Depends on lakes really and you current troll motor. For me personally I don't fish many lakes that a set of talons would be able to be utilized very often. I think I'd find myself using the ultrex anchor feature much more. So for me my list is Ultrex and once I have that down the road the the talons or power poles.

Talons. Trying to be as stealthy as possible up shallow. Don't want a trolling motor keeping on spot. Now out deep that thing would be awesome.

One new trolling motor (Ultrex) or a set of Talons .Which one if you was to buy ? Both!! Seriously, I was on Fayette today and my Spot lock/anchor just acted like a pivot point and the wind was pushing me around pretty good. I'm really considering a set now.

I tried out my new Ultrex yesterday, all I can say is wow, if i had to give up my poles for the Ultrex I would, thankfully I do not, I put my poles down with boat facing into a pretty stiff wind, then i hit spot lock on the Ultrex, we were locked in, boat hardly moved.

Installing Ultrex this weekend, hopefully it lives up to the hype! There have been so many situations I have said I wish I had spot lock.
I have one power pole which is nice, two would be better but many times I am sitting too deep for the pole to help anyway.

one Ultrex and 2 Talons would be good.
Both have their time and place and neither can replace the other, IMO...

You will use the benefits of the ultrex every time you fish. How often do you use your poles?
Get the ultrex and save up for a pole or 2.

I fish shallow way too much to give up my talons.

Not disagreeing with you but I use the pole nearly every time also, if for nothing else to hold the boat while I park the truck.
