There are absolutely good and bad insurance companies. I am in roofing and hands down, All State and State Farm are miserable to deal with 95% of the time. There are dozens of companies that are in the middle and a handful that are awesome. SafeCo, USAA, Liberty, Texas Farm Bureau are a couple of the exceptional companies when it comes to paying for claims. Geico is not a good insurance company to deal with.
I know for HomeOnwers Allstate and Farmers are horrible
USAA is awesome, State Farm / Liberty Mutual are very good You're going to hear good and bad stories about all insurance companies. Not cool to make blanket statements.

I'm happy with Progressive. When I hit a stump on Fork, the adjuster was at the shop writing a check the next day. New lower unit, no problem.

USAA is awesome, State Farm / Liberty Mutual are very good I would watch State Farm too.... I have had them since 84 without a single claim and in 2006 when my boat was broken to on my driveway and all of my rods and reels were stolen, they wouldn't cover it because they said the rods and reels weren't part of the boat... then they turned around and said that if it had been skis and such that would have been covered. What????? Their not part of the boat.... Luckily my home owners insurance gladly took care of it for me.. I have State Farm and I have had one claim on my boat for prop shaft and fiberglass damage, It was about $6K and they were excellent to deal with. Wait till your 2nd claim with State Farm. Your only allowed 1 per 10 yrs. 2nd, you go to high risk and raise your rate and deductible.

I deal with about 200 Homeowners claims per year. It's not a blanket statement, it is what I see daily. So I guess everyone on here that likes their Geico service and says that State Farm sucks are just lying about it.

That's the problem. He sent me a break down of the actual policy. And it has all the extras. And the value they insured it on. 4 month old policy. And when it was agreed on repairs. They took the total of repairs. And took out for deductible. Then took that total. And said they devalue the boat agreed current value. From 10,500$ to $6000 in 4 months. Basically what the repairs are. I think repairs are around 4500$ So in 4 months, they lowered your policy rate to reflect the current boat value right???? I had USAA insure me once. They spent a week checking for the value of the boat calling dealers. I sunk the boat before I even made the first payment and what do you think that they said? It wasn't worth the value that they appraised it at. They paid at the new appraised value after the accident. Of course since I had never even made a payment, I took it and moved on.

Read the JOE BASS statement. I am in the claims industry and all of the mentioned companies are good companies. If you had a bad experience it is because of not knowing what type of policy or what endorsements you may have. 95 % of people with insurance have no idea what they even have or the coverage ,limit or anything else. Most people think they have it all... but they dont. Insurance companies are in business to offer protection against accidents and perils. They know their business well. The last thing any of them want is an unhappy insured because they will 1) loose the customer and 2) loose the premium. Ever wonder why they advertise so much ? To get you to leave who you are with and come with them. Simple marketing. No different than the 10 thousand different color of plastics we all use.

So what you are saying is the insurance company agents lack proper training to inform customers properly ...or they are crooks....or just stupid......which is it?

There are some Agents that know more about Homeowners than Auto, Boat, Life or other types of insurance. They don't always understand everything the policy offers or does not offer. Insurance policy's always start with what we cover then go on and on and on with some very interesting language that can be quite difficult to understand. No one is a crook or stupid as all agents including adjusters and public adjusters require a license and hours of continuing education. This is not a license you can just go buy. People in the industry require more training than you would ever imagine. No one is stupid or a crook and making such a statement with that content really shows where the problem exist. The problem is with the consumer. they want the maximum coverage available but with a minimum premium. What you fail to realize is the Insurance Policy is a piece of paper. Hard to sell a piece of paper with language in it you don't understand. But when an event happens, the insured is first to go nuts about the coverage they actually have and point fingers at everyone except the one they see in the mirror, the true problem. To say one is stupid or a crook is a BOLD statement that you should reconsider.

Insurance policy's always start with what we cover then go on and on and on with some very interesting language that can be quite difficult to understand. That is a major issue with insurance, most of it is written in lawyer language. When I go to house and homewoners ask me if their Insurance will cover it. I just tell them to submit a claim and get an claim # and adjustor and let the adjustor make the call if they want to use insurance. Remember insurance is one of the oldest industry in America, and you usually get what you paid for. Years ago if you felt wronged you could of contacted the Texas Department of Insurance and they are who regulate insurance in Texas, but around 1999 when Farmers lead the moratorium on selling policies and started cancelling homeowners policies in Texas, they took the teeth out of the TDI. I personally would never have Farmers or All State. I have had State Farm forever, but I also see a lot of other good ones out there like USAA, Germania, Liberty Mutual.
