I finally get to fish during the week and want to hit one of these 2 lakes. Haven't been to Monti this year and hit Fairfield once. Which one would you fish?

The day after catching a lot of fish is still a good day.

Fairfield was a dud Saturday. Caught a couple good fish early then it fell flat as soon as the clouds lifted.

Didn't see many fish caught either. Not like what was advertised....Sure the front jacked them up. I guess if it was my home lake I could have done better...Shoulda been there a few days ago type of deal I'm sure...

When reeds don't work all you got is 2 or 3 spots to try deep that I could see. Lake is a mudhole.

I'll take Squaw, Monti or Welsh over that salad bowl.

Btw, please shoot whatever birds that is that carp all over your truck.

When the sun comes out....it's "game on" with a punch rig. The fish only moved a few feet. They didn't stop eating.

Ps....don't shoot the big white birds or the big brown ones with white heads and tail feathers....both are kinda protected. The rest....fire at will.

I went to Fairfield Sunday for the first time this year and had 11 bites caught 7 with 1 good fish weighing 6lbs. I was hoping someone would talk me into Monti
Are the fish at FF just starting to spawn?
We did see 3 otters and a beautiful bald eagle!
I don't get many days off and need to make this one count.

Thanks

I would go to Monti, especially since we've had a couple of days of warming trend. Try pad stems, discharge, and if all else fails, the bridges...you can throw dog terds at the bridge and still catch 'em. Hit all of the water column at the bridge. Light line t-rig finesse worms, drop-shot, Shallow and deep running CB's should cover it. Good luck and enjoy fishing on a weekday. That's what I try to do every outing.

Don't hesitate on monti, even under some brutal tough conditions the other day we caught some nice fish and with a couple warmer days going into wed you should be able to get em there. The railroad bridge has fish and the back of that creek is full of grass with a lot of healthy hydrilla that's holding some good quality fish right now. Good luck!

Fairfield. Fished it for the first time Friday before last. Caught 16 fish, 6 of them between 4 and 6 lbs, from 9 a.m. to dark. Bright sunny day, bite never stopped, all in the reeds. Most on slow rolled spinnerbaits, the bigger ones on Mpack swim jig. Plus I may want to fish Monti this coming Friday.

A good rule of angling philosophy is not to interfere with another fisherman's ways of being happy, unless you want to be hated.

Dang it Iconn4 you had a great day! I'm going to head to Monticello just because it's a weekday and I haven't been there since last April. Thanks for the info Billy!

Your making the right choice choosing monti. We've doing very well last few weeks fishing slow. Average for us has been around 25lb stringers. Biggest so far there was around 6. Averaging anywhere between 20-40 fish a day. Let us know how you did. Need any pointers on where or how shoot me a p.m

might get to break out this Saturday and was debating on Monti or Welsh.

anyone with input on which one would get the lean over the other? taking a buddy for fun fishing just want to put him on some fish. Not worried about chasing giants he just wants to catch.
