If it's only a fraction of a percent in population it's only a fraction of a percent in the genetics...
I agree with you. A few more trophies, maybe.

Roberts needs to have a million fingerlings a year planted for the next 10 years. Maybe then I could catch something on that toilet... Anybody who wants to catch something on a toilet? Better stock up on penicillin. I have heard the economics talk before. All I can say, is maybe it's time for change. If all you do is pump up Fork and ignore Ray Roberts? How will you ever drive the economy to new places? Seems a little like the definition of insanity: Doing the same thing over and over - and expecting different results. YES I did see clouds of fingerlings (millions and millions) after the floods protected the fry by flooding the drought weeds and grasses and bushes. That's why I am thinking we will be having great success (despite TPWD) in the future. It'll be beautiful, really really beautiful.

I don't think stocking has any significant effect on the number of fish in the lake. It does increase the Florida genetics which increases the likelihood of a few more "trophy" fish.
Water conditions, available cover, and available forage are contributing to the numbers, in my opinion. We have a winner. Heavily stocking an established healthy lake is not good....only makes the few healthy bass into skinny sick bass that most will soon starve. Stocking only significantly improve catch quantities for new lakes or lakes having an unusual event such a a recent fish kill. Even then such stocking only speeds up what mother nature would have accomplished anyway given time. If you want more fish in your lake Ray Roberts, ask TPWD to add more nutrients. But then you are not fishing, you are farming.

Was contacted by Mr. Bennett and he shared this with me to pass on to the forum.... Within the Denison District, Ray Roberts is our most important black bass fishery. Ray Roberts has a good fishery, yet has suffered some primarily due to low water levels prior to 2015. Now that the water level is back up, I am hopeful we will see some grass begin to return as long as lake levels remain somewhat stable. Stocking Florida Largemouth fingerlings at Ray Roberts will be an important management tool which I will utilize at Ray Roberts. Stocking Florida bass is done to enhance the genetics of the population and trophy potential, and does little to impact overall numbers of fish introduced through natural reproduction because roughly 1-3% of stocked fish may survive the initial stocking. Because stocking is done to enhance the genetic potential, reservoirs with the proven ability to produce trophy fish receive priority for available fingerlings. There are additional factors that influence priority for stocking, including new lakes, renovated lakes, or lakes with recent habitat improvements (which many of reservoirs exhibit currently after the rises in water level in 2015 and 2016). And finally, stocking depends on availability of those fingerlings from our hatcheries; and, there is quite a demand for fish each spring considering all the reservoirs in Texas. All this said, Ray Roberts does have proven trophy potential, and greatly improved habitat availability for small bass in recent years. Although about 70% of the bass in Ray Roberts possess Florida genetics, I do believe we can improve upon that and the proportion of Florida alleles in individual fish through strategic stocking. In 2016, I requested Florida largemouth bass fingerlings for stocking in Ray Roberts this spring. In fact, this year our hatcheries will begin working to develop our broodstock directly from Sharelunkers, so that all Florida bass fingerlings stocked around the state will be direct descendants of a 13# or larger fish. I will certainly be requesting a stocking of these fish for Ray Roberts as soon as possible, and I am hopeful this will also result in improvements to the fishery.
