Watched the Squaw Honey Hole episode today. Didn't look like they struggled. Bill and Dax caught a carp load of fish!! Look at the results today and get back to me. Late December and some of best sticks on the lake and 16 wins? After what I saw Wilcox do to a couple guys I have no respect for him. I don't care how many years you have on the lake you don't pull up on them and make guys so uncomfortable they leave a spot. I felt bad for the guys. Was it on the show or something you observed happen?

Guys, I had buddies that poached that lake before it opened to the public. They told me stories of 5 and 6 pounders fighting over spinnerbaits.
Once it opened to the public, the fish freaked out, and with the clear water, either you used live bait, or you got skunked.
I personally have caught over 100 lbs. of bass, just launching a float tube and fishing the cove at the launch.Got broke off 3 times.
The fish are there, tournaments may make the fish more skittish, but just to prove THEY ARE THERE... use some live bait. The 100+ lbs. I caught were on Tequila Sunrise Power Worms.
I'm sure the fish are there for those that know how. I "fished" the lake a lot before it opened until they decided to start patrolling it. There we a ton of fish to catch but never did I or the couple of other people I went wth catch any over 3 pounds. They did like TS worms for sure and Bagley perch crankbaits. But even when the limit was 20 fish there were not any 100 lb stringers. 100 fish days yes a lot. Heck I've only been to the lake twice since it actually opened and once was opening day! One of these days I'm going to jump in Fish Killers of Bordans boat and ride along.
Retirement best job ever.

13.23 won today....... but it was a 3 fish limit... not a big turnout. Figured it was Tournament director steppin up to help manage the fishery??? I dont know if that was the reason but it makes sense to me. Its a start. And yes we fizzed all our fish that were caught deep.
ELITE POWER SYSTEMS/ Elite Fishing Products Lithium Battery & Charging Systems, Soft Plastics, Tackle,Tokyo Rigs Tight lines & stay safe out there.Gods blessings

RIP Squaw and RIP this thread... Yessir. When they opened it back up, I remember the briefing vividly. "No tournaments will be allowed accept charity tournaments approved by Luminant. Pretty sure the only actual charity tournaments were the 400.00 one that Jeff put on that May prior to the reopen, the Hood County Sheriff Child advocacy tournament, proceeded by fish and chips.

I'm amazed some guys are still catching them as good as they are with all the tournaments out there.

I don't think there is any more tourneys out there this year than years past? The open tourney Saturday had 18 teams. I think nearly all the reservations were full. I'm GUESSING that the warmer temps so far this winter along with no reactor shutdowns like the past two years have the big fish pattern out of whack this year. (I'm not a pro fisherman but I play one on the weekend.) Lol

There needs to be a weigh in system similiar to MLF, catch the fish, weigh the fish, record the weight, release the fish on the spot. Too many fish are dying from time caught, to weigh in, to release. Count the number of tournaments, number of fish caught, and holding times these fish are enduring, then take into account the number of tourney fishers in older boats with obsolete live wells. I know you can't put a person to weigh and verify on every tourney boat, it needs to be all electronic. No, start obeying the law and start keeping fish that you can eat. For you hardcore green monster fish fathers, do you think the surveys tpwl take each year are total BS? Gawd, start keeping fish and this problem will be solved.
