I'll go first. 8' Pro Angler is the best $51 you can spend.

Anyone have thoughts on the bass pro shop brand? They have high reviews? Thought about $120 crappie rod but not sure. I got dobyns rods so it isn't necessarily cost that has me hesitant.

iv had one of the crappie maxx rods break about 7-8 inches above the reel seat. I use ugly sticks now but I'm gonna try out the pro anglers soon.

Obviously, plenty of awesome rods to chose from.

I own G-Rods, TICAS, Pro Angler, Southern Crappie Rods, BnM Sam Heaton Super Sensitive.
All Good Rods with nothing negative to say about any of them.

However,

I was turned onto a new rod by a fellow angler here on the Texas Fishing Forum.
The rod is made by a former Crappie Guide up in Illinois.

I have a Green two piece 8 Foot Rod.
I have a Red one piece 7 foot Rod.

I prefer to fish with an 8 foot rod, so I prefer the two piece Green 8 Foot Rod.

www.ACCCRAPPIESTIX.com

$52

Good Backbone and I can feel the lightest of bites. I landed a 35 pound yellow cat that decided to slam my Crappie Jig on Fork.
It took me 25 minutes to land him. I took pictures and released him back into the water.
The rod did not break even though it looked like the letter U the entire time.
I was sold on it from then on and it truly is my rod of choice right now to slay Crappie.
It is great to go Thump Chasing with on any lake.

You honestly cant go wrong with any of them that I mentioned.

Best of luck with whatever you decide. thumb

What type of fishing you doing, redneck? In some models a 6' rod and a 7' rod is a completely different rod with completely different actions and power.

Since I'm a confirmed tackle ho' I've fished everything from Ugly Stiks to Dobyns Extremes. Currently my "drug of choice" is one of several St Croix Avids but it really isn't necessary to spend that kind of money unless you just want to. The biggest game changer for me has been switching to braid with a fluoro leader. Using this a $50 Pro Angler is plenty sensitive and there's no doubt that it's a good rod. The ACC Crappie Stix have my attention at the moment as do the G Rods. Decisons, decisions..... wink

There are several real nice rods for around 50 bucks that will serve you well. The Grods people speak of are 160+ bucks and in my opinion are not worth that kinda of money. Yes I have used one. I am not saying they aren't nice, just not worth the money for crappie fishing.

Stay away from the Crappie Maxx brand if at all possible. They are cheaply made and break easily. The more you spend, the better rod you will get. It depends on your budget and how often you fish. I fish a lot and get my rods custom made from Sniper Rods.

G-Rod fan here but I often use 32nd to 64th oz jigs and the sensitive rod is imperative.

I am also a big fan of a Tennessee handle and fish with a rod-heavy rig and understand very few people "finesse fish" as often as I do. For the applications I most commonly use a rod....lower modulus will not suffice.

Thanks fishinaholic. I guess I haven't fished for crappie in a while. I looked at the proangler website and I did order from them. Think I got an 8' rod and a 5.5. My other rod is an ugly stick light rod about 5.5 as well. I will do some looking and maybe check out the acc rods out. Do their prices include shipping by chance?

Just glanced at the ACC Crappie Stix Web Site.
The GSO8M (Green 8 Foot) went up just a bit in price to $55.99.
It went up $4.00 from the last time I purchased from them. Worth Every Penny!

I love the Green 8 Foot Rods so much, I just ordered 3 more.
If you order $150 worth or essentially 3 Rods you get FREE SHIPPING.

All this talking about Rods I just felt the need to get a few more. grin

Hey HOGON, what did you think of the Southern Crappie Rods? I noticed they are one of the few that has a 9' rod. Thx

Rods, rods, rods I like a lot of different brands, B&M PROs= nice sensitivity CONs= eyelids and tip break fairly easy , Pro Angler PROS= Super backbone, decent sensitivity, hella tough CONs= too much backbone rips lips of bigger heavier fish if you set the hook too hard, not as forgiving as other more flexible brands if you over do it. Bone head PROs= damn good rods overall tough CONS= not worth 100$ doesn't catch or lose anymore or less fish than SOME brands half the price to me IMHO. Overall Proangler best bang for the buck!

Anyone use one of the all-star jig rods? Iv held them a lot at academy and they feel good in the hand but iv had two all-star bass rods break (both times my wife was setting the hook with them) smile.

If I remember the 8 footer was $34.99 and for the price it's a great Crappie Rod.

In fact, I don't think you will find a better Rod for the same price anywhere on the market.

It's Light and Sensitive so I can feel the light bite. It has a decent backbone.

I was fishing with Southern Crappie Rods when I was introduced to the ACC CRAPPIE STIX.

The two reasons I made the ACC Crappie STIX my primary Thump Chaser Rod are:

It has more backbone than the Southern Crappie Rods.
The Rod is Green and I'm partial to Green as it's one of my favorite colors.

If I was looking for a great Crappie Rod at $34.99 then Southern Crappie Rods gets my vote.

If I don't mind spending another $20 and your willing to part with $54.99 for a Rod that in my opinion is an exceptional Crappie Rod then ACC Crappie Stix fits that criteria perfectly.

I have nothing against any of the other Rod makers. All great Rods.

I'm just partial to the ACC Crappie STIX Rods after using them the last couple months.

Best Thump for the Buck in my humble opinion.

8' ACC Crappie Stix for boat fishing. 5.5' for dock fishing. I like a rod with lots of backbone and the ACC Crappie Stix fits the bill.

I am no crappie expert , but I have fished with several rods from low end B'M up to high end St Croix and G rods. I take 6 rods each trip, these days. 5 pro anglers and one g rod. I don't see enough difference in the g rod to justify replacing my pro anglers. I've caught hybrids to 8 lbs and flatheads to 43 lbs on the pro anglers. I have seen 2 1/2 lb crappie swung into the boat with the pro anglers, but I usually use a net on the big fish.
If you have unlimited funds , go for g rod, if not , get several pro anglers and don't look back.
Good luck.

Another vote for Pro Angler rods. Perform great and if you order one today you will probably be fishing with it by the weekend. They ship out fast! And if your hard on rods like my son, they sell the top and bottom prod pieces separately if you break them.
