BEWARE of dealing with "Redwigglr".

I had a leak around the top of my tilt/trim cylinder, so I purchased a new o-ring kit & attempted to rebuild it myself..Needless to say, it still leaked around the top wiper seal(I had put an approved tranny fluid in it). I decided to contact Mike(Redwigglr) who agreed to repair it for me. I took my boat out to him on August 26th at which time he asked for & received 165.00 for parts(new o-ring kit, new relief valve balls, etc). On Aug 31 he let me texted me & told me "Ordered kit.It is fixable." We spoke on the phone & he said he'd have it done in about a week.. We talk a couple weeks later & he tells me its working great on the bench, he filled it with Johnson fluid & next he's going to install it & test it under load..A little over 2 weeks later(Monday Sept 26th) he calls me & tells me I need to come pick up the boat asap because he's been evicted & been moving all weekend....He also informed me that the tilt/trim was still leaking & it couldn't be repaired.
I drive out within 2 hours to pick up the boat. He tells me that the tilt/trim cylinder must be worn out & that I would have to replace the whole tilt/trim unit. He also informs me that he had drained the Johnson fluid & filled it with tranny fluid. I glanced at the tilt/trim & sure enough I see red fluid around the top cap just as before. At this point I figure he has installed a new o-ring kit as promised & other parts that would add up to his estimated parts quote of 165.00. He says he's not going to charge me for his labor..
I take the boat home thinking I've got to find a new tilt/trim... But then the more I think about it what he said I got a bad feeling that something wasn't right.. I contacted another boat mechanic who was very highly recommended & respected and he told me that something didn't sound right about Redwigglr's story & that if I bought another o-ring kit, that he would come out & install it.
He arrived at my house within the week & within 5 minutes of looking at it he could see that the top wiper seal on the cylinder was in upside down.(groove facing up, instead of down)I was shocked & admitted that I remember installing it that way(incorrectly)BEFORE I took it to Redwigglr. So now one of two things must be true...1) I installed the top wiper seal upside down & Redwigglr never worked on it OR Redwigglr did install a new o-ring kit & he also installed the top wiper seal incorrectly.
It took the boat mechanic I hired less than 1 hour to remove the entire tilt/trim, install new seals & put it all back together!! And, guess what?? Yup, problem solved, it works perfectly!! No leaks at all!!! No having to buy a new tilt/trim unit!!
So now I'm not very happy with Mike... I'm out another 140.00 to repair something I paid him to do. I then text Mike & express my concerns..I also ask him to "contact me, so we can be on the same page".
After no reply, I text him again that I paid him 165.00 for parts, because he says its fixable & now he's telling me it's still leaking & I need to come get it because he's being evicted, plus I need to buy a another tilt/trim unit because mine can't be fixed. I ask him to "just refund my 165.00 & let's move on"
He texts me back & simply says "I have no money to hand out. Sorry you are unhappy.
My reply...."The problem is that I had to pay someone else to fix your mistake...Do you stand behind your work?"
He never replied back & that speaks for itself..

You know, I really wish I could leave Redwigglr a positive feedback, because when I met him he seemed like a nice guy to deal with...Unfortunately, it seems my first impression wasn't accurate. I've also been told I'm not the only one to have to pay someone else to fix something Mike worked on.
Very disappointing experience for sure, so would strongly recommend that you do not take your repair needs to Redwigglr.

bought a boat from a board member that said it was lake ready, so far I'm up to about $4000 getting the boat "lake ready". Not being forth coming is the same as lying!!! Boat looked great in the pictures. I broke my own rule when I didn't try before bought and took another person's word.

you should share the name, it's what this section of the board is about........ so others can search it for names of people they may be dealing with and get a feel for how they have acted in the past
