i currently have a 2010 triton 186 --have considered a 20-21 ft but my goodness !!! you can buy a really nice boat for 20k --19 ft or less -- but they are 1k an inch after that
just wish i knew a practical answer for that --other than another axle under the trailer and another 100 horses -that just doesnt explain it !

Understand the meaning of "FIAT MONEY" and you'll have your answer... No one in an legitimate business can manufacture anything without making sufficient profits to maintain their operation. But as more and more worthless fiat money is introduced into our money supply by the owners of America's worthless printing presses (sic) "The Fed", inflation and "YOUR" loss of purchasing power is the natural outcome and eventually leads to higher prices for everything, including Boats... More and more anglers are priced out of the market of purchasing a new boat every year... $50,000 to $100,000 costs for bass boats that are used a few times a month???? My definition of insanity... Worthless money and high prices are one of the main reasons for so much thievery at the boat ramps and boat storage facilities too... Until America addresses its worthless money problem, it ain't gonna get any better folks...

So many crazy reasons. Mainly because there is a market for the coolest, prettiest, fastest, most comfortable, technically advanced BA bass boat made. With boat loans stretching out to 10-12 years it makes it possible for average joe's to run with the big boys. Insane? yes it is IMO. But to each his own. You can save so much money buying pre-owned. No way I would buy a new bass boat. You can get a solid 20-21 foot clean boat for 1/4 of what a new one costs.

The prices went up astronomically during the years of crazy oil prices. Almost everything used in modern boat building is manufactured as a product or by product of petroleum. Unfortunately, the price in boat prices, did not drop with the price of oil. Add to that the increased cost of the additional items used, and the cost of yard labor to put it all together Thank the unions for a lot of that. Add further to that the people with a large discretionary income who have money to spend, want to fish, and a desire to look better than Joe on the water while doing it, Then there are the dealers who sell accessories and add-ons for no less than MSRP. The manufacturers and dealers who have tried to build and sell cheaper have been forced out of business by the bigger builders who have been willing drop prices long enough to thin the competition who were unable to sell lower to compete, thus opening up the market even further. The last thin I can think of and I'm sure there is more, is that bling sells boats. When was the last time you saw a new bass boat that did not have metal flake gelcoat and electronics hanging off of it? Have I missed anything?

Just finish a plant tour in Flippin last week. They make Rangers, Triton, and Stratos. Each boat takes around 300 to 400 man hours. Not defending the $1000 an inch, but a lot goes into a boat as far as materials, and production time. Just like everything else, every thing goes up in price.

Just a few more words of wisdom from an old man that's been there and done it all; about the economics of owning an $1,000.00 per inch bass boat: 1. I don't know one middle class angler that is keeping up with the rising costs of everything, even with two incomes (with a working wife), and that especially includes the higher costs associated with chasing jaws. 2. The days of so-called "CREATIVE FINANCING" are finished in the bass angling industry in America... 3. 20 year financing for a $100,000.00 recreational bass boat and $300.00 swim-baits are not only absurd; these costs represent absolute madness to the Nth Degree and the end of a era. If you think financial education is expensive; try ignorance. I would challenge every reader in this forum to understand the basics of economics as explained by Henry Hazlitt. It is an easy read and you will come away with a true understanding of why you cannot afford a $1,000.00 per inch bass boat and what will be needed to once again manufacture boats in the USA that are within the price range of the average working class American. https://mises.org/library/economics-one-lesson

The boats are 1 grand an inch so the boat company CEO,s can afford their 56 foot yachts.

If you believe that building and selling certain category of boats is extremely profitable due to huge margin -- why don't you start a business which does exactly that? You'll either become rich or discover the reason why those boats are so expensive. (likely because market for them is drastically smaller than for boats of other classes)

Not a new phenomenon actually. Since I've been old enough to care I've always been amazed by the upcharge to a "loaded out" vehicle verses a "base model". The striped down base model pickup: $25,000. The same frame, motor, transmission, power steering, A/C..... but in a "blinged out" loaded model: $50,000. "Bling" can double and more the cost. "XL vs Platinum" Then with bassboats you have the aftermarket options that can total tens of thousands. Buyers choice. :-)

As long as people pay it why wouldn't they charge it. Since so many are in the same price range, I am surprised that more aren't bumping up the price even more. Just like someone mentioned $300 swimbaits. Heck I see square bills being sold in the forum for $12 a piece and people pay it. The boats should come with a first mate and the lures should come with someone to tie them on and remove the fish.
Too many feel that they need the stuff that the pros use because that is what it takes to be a pro. They don't think that maybe the pro wouldn't be using the high dollar boats and equipment if they didn't have sponsors who paid them to suck everyone else into the trap.
