The price is high because we pay it. I see 20-30 year olds I know don't make $30K driving boats that cost more than my 6 cars/trucks combined. I wish I could grab them and make them listen to my story but all their friends are buying expensive stuff on credit...

I new 250 HP runs about $15K, so that doesn't help.
I don' think it's the CEO making the money, I tend to think the long term financing they are offering is a main reason boats have increased.
In Bass boats BassCat just sold his family company and basically got out of boat building, and look at all the other brands that have been sold or went away.

I can remember my grandad griping about how high our new Ranger was when I went with him to pick it up in 1979. Nothing has changed I guess. I bought a new one in 2014 to replace a 1997 model I bought new. For me, I will buy one ever so often and always comment I will never buy new again but always do.

More like $1000 a foot if you go aluminum. I see these guys all the time with super expensive fiberglass boats with 200 and 300 HP engines. I guess if you were a professional bass fisherman you'd need that but a weekend or retired fisherman does not need that. My little 175 with the 60 HP engine puts along at 25-30 mph and that's plenty fast to get me where I need to go.
It's also slow enough for me to dodge obstacles like that [censored] kid in the jet ski I almost hit a month ago who was out in the pitch black dark on Gaines bend doing donuts as I was coming back from Bluff creek. If I was going 70 MPH in one of those "bass boats" I'm sure I'd be in a fun lawsuit with his family now after hitting him. Barely missed him anyway.

New boat prices are stupid crazy! They are also driving up cost of pre-owned rigs.

21' X 12"= 252"
252" X 1000.00 = 252,000.00
I have never seen a bass boat that is 252,000.00 What brand boats are you looking at???????

I was at BP shop last year and sales guy said they're going 20 years now on financing. Crazy The reason nobody has the finances to purchase most of these boats. Except by insane long term finance. Buy used update a little if needed and go fishing. J D

And you would have won it as it is illegal to operate a jet flea after sunset. But to obey the law, you really need to be able to read it and I think that eliminates a lot of those guys.

Try going across Toledo Bend on a windy day and you'll understand the need for the big fiberglass boats vs. aluminum boats. Even though I have the power to run as fast as I want, I usually keep it around 50mph.

I have never owned a new truck, much less a new boat. I don't need all of the bling, so my '99 Triton TR21 that I bought for $6K and completely restored myself works just fine and my '03 F250 still runs and drives like new. To each his own though.
If someone is willing to pay a price for an item, someone will build it. I was talking to a banker friend of mine the other day who was having to foreclose on a home for which his institution held the mortgage. In the conversation, he told me that the owner is current on his bass boat payment, but in default on his home. He said this was very common.

No normal bass boat is anywhere near $1000 an inch. You can get nice used boats for $1000 a foot or less, and they're built just as good as the new ones.
