Never been to lake winnsboro and will probably be headed up there this weekend to pre fish. is there only one boat ramp or what is the best boat ramp to use? Also is there anything i need to know about getting around the lake, like to watch for stumps in certain parts or boat lanes? any tips would be greatly appreciated too! thank you and tight lines!

Stumps all over the Northern half of the lake. Idle from there.
I believe that may be the only public ramp.
Fun lake to fish when I was on it.

Use the ramp at the dam! The ramp at Taylors is broke and not worth risking a launch there. Boat lane is tight to the east side of the lake. Everything past Pleasure Point requires caution except the boat lane.

Most lakes in that area are 90+% full so should be ok . Like mentioned tho be very careful of tree stumps . Biggest bass on record shows to be just over 10-lbs but I would be willing to bet there are some bigger than that . Back in the 60s' I fished that lake a lot mostly using H&H spinners , Blk&Yellow . Taylors little horn area on the eastern side and Carolyn Estates section produced some big bass in that area but it's been a long time since I been there so not sure how fishing is now . Lot's of patience required tho .

I had this tucked away just found it, might help. follow that East bank staying 70 yards off the bank and points. I grew up on the lake, fished it since 1968.
It received some Florida's in the mid 70's.. And yes there are or were much bigger fish than 10 lbs not recorded. I know of an 11 and a 12+ in the early 80's.
Those old timers didn't give a hoot about a lake record, it would have brought more unwanted fisherman to them...
Oh yea, once you get to the mouth of Big Sandy creek (the split) going left straight down the middle all the way to the iron bridge, it's safe.. If you can get under the bridge it's a bonus back there in the fall...

Redskeeter's map is pretty good. The only two things that I would add are stay tight no more than 50 yds on the run going from the dam and once up in the northeast arm where he has stumps written it is idle only up to the highway bridge, it is not clear once you go thru that area. Winnsboro is a fun lake.

Yeah I stopped the trail going up North, I can run much further on pad. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone else.. You can run flat out to the iron bridge. I was gonna say 50 yards, but afraid they might get to close and there are a few stragglers on the one point just before Blacks slough. My parents are retired there now, they live mid lake by the old red boat house. They have a Dutch barn style house, lot of good memories there.
Hope it helps.

Fond memories of a grass filled Winnsboro. Still a great fishery if you learn it.

Those of you who been there in the 60s' , how many remember the black man that milked cows right there on a corner just east of Taylors Little Horn turnoff ? Friendly old man . I use to fish often there in that cove where the road went down to the water .

I fished a couple road beds with Mr. Taylor back in the day, my little brother too. Learned how to Tx rig a worm, that old man was the best fisherman I've ever seen(well, to me back then) he loved Bagley BangOLures, and that lake to this day is a heck of a bangOlure lake.. I have a Plano 3600 full of them, they work on Fork too. grin

The map is great. Only thing I would add is at the Y, if you go to the left toward the Iron Bridge, do not run right down the middle. Stay toward the right bank until you get to the pocket on the right, then head straight to the bridge. There are a couple MONSTER stumps in the middle. I'll try to post a map.

Do not use the coordinates. The are a close guess.

Do not run inside that pocket either, it is full of stumps.
