I always get a kick out of others perspectives. It's cool for the little guy to start his business and chase the American dream but if he catches that dream and becomes a billionaire then all of a sudden the other little guys turn their backs on him, say he's lost touch and find another little guy to shop with... Oh the irony.

I have always felt that Bass Pro was for Fishermen that Hunt and that Cabelas was for Hunters that Fish. Hope some of that stays the same but I doubt it.
Ya know that Jim Cabela was also a small time guy that did it right and grew. This whole thing is kind of crazy to think that 1 guy bought into Cabela's stock and now this.

Also, Cabelas kept Sidney Nebraska on the map. No telling what that town will look like in the near future.

IMO Cabelas does not give a cr*p about people who fish. Always out of stock, things they don't carry, and customer service is poor. BPS has inventory, and customer service. Cabelas salesman tried to compare a Phoenix to a Stratos when looking for a new boat. BAD!!!
I shop BPS for common items, but specialty like YM, Santone jigs, I head to Fun n Sun or ANGLERS. Only issue with Tackle Warehouse is freight. Both sides say they are committed to both brands, maybe JM will fix inventory at Cabelas. I hope so as Cabelas is closer to the house.

IMO, this won't be good simply from the point of 'competition' driving prices/inventory/customer service/etc.
Sad. Yes, I totally support our local smaller retailers, i.e., Anglers and sometimes on internet Tackle Warehouse.
Have to wait and see...
I usually use Cabelas and have their c/c but, also have one from Bass Pro shop.
Principally use Cablas because it is closer to my home.
Gander Mountain is not that far but, from what I'm hearing, they are higher $ wise.

Just my two cents

Two weeks ago, my credit card limit was reduced from $12,500, to $3500.00. I thought that was strange, and I've always paid them regularly.
I never asked for that kind of limit but it irritated me when they reduced it.
I paid them off and sent my card back to them. They can keep it.
Has anyone else had something like this happen to them because I had heard that the one area that was keeping the merger from happening was Cabelas approach to credit card customers.

As one example to the contrary, they give free 4-5 hour fly-fishing seminars. Learned a lot last year at one. Sure, they want to create customers, but seems like a very broad statement, especially to a store who seems to take back a lot of bad rods/reels under their warranty?

Cabela's has always been great to me, from the customer service side to the credit card side. Just hoping this does not change, but afraid it will.

If they escalate pricing it won't be because they are over leveraged because of the acquisition. If I read correctly it was an all cash deal. By the looks of it this was purely a market share grab.

Personally I'm not excited about it, but it could potentially be a great business decision for Johnny Morris.. that said, if the political climate changes and legislation is passed that is anti-gun; BPS is going to be in a world of hurt.

I hardly ever shop there except in the bargain cave, so it really won't make a difference to me. Just another great excuse to go all local, custom or make your own stuff.
