You will be fine, if the motor happens to start shut it off immediately.

I always check to see if the motor is going to start before putting it in the water. I don't want to be that person that takes up the ramp for 15 minutes trying to get mine to start. That being said , I removed my lower unit this spring before season and was going to change the impeller and it still looked like it did the day it was installed. I have been dry starting mine at the ramp for around 2 yrs. now. I just let it run for about a second or two.
