I've caught alot of smallies on a football jigs with either a yamamoto grub or skirted grub. Also caught alot on brown and camo 1/4 oz bitzy bug jig. As already stated, they'll hit topwaters and spinnerbaits with painted blades. Best crankbait colors I've had success with have been chartr/white, and spring craw colors.

Bluffs and drop offs, Berkly power leach, drop shot it or nose hook it on a 1/8oz roadrunner.
Weed lines and flats off channels, Xrap in yellow perch or chrome, bandit 300 in spring craw or khaki.
Rocky points, Zoom fat albert grub in glimmer blue, watermelon red or green pumpkin all with the tail dipped in chartruese on a spot remover or slider jig head.
Good search baits in any of these areas, rattle trap in orange craw, berkly power shad in chartruese or shad color on 1/4 oz minnow head, Zoom fluke weightless watermelon red or smokin shad, you can also swim grubs to search for them.
One thing to remember about small mouth, when you find one 99% of the time there are more in the area.
