Didn't they start allowing bowfishing of bass as of Sept 1? Can we start a tournament for multispecies?

No bass, but they did start a one year trial for catfish.
There has been very few taken, that I know of. They seem
to be too deep to reach at this point. This may change.
However, we still have to abide by the same length and limits
that everyone else does. If you try, remember that they look
bigger underwater, so be careful of the length requirements.

Why don't ya'll donate the fish to some charity/food bank-type organization or advertise a free fish giveaway at the end of each tourneyment. Then, I'd guess most people, including me, would have no objection to your sport since there is no waste going on? I know my granddad would never turn down a big buffalo when he was alive.

bowfishing is a fun sport. I appreciate the dates which were posted. I wish thet bowfishing wasn't so controversial, you would think that TFF would be the one place where the discusssion of all methods of fishing were welcome.

TxnAngler, that's a great point, and as mentioned that
happens sometimes, but the local shoots usually don't
have enough for someone (large farm, zoo etc.) to mess with it.
Oh, and it don't seem may people want the carp and little gar we shoot. We've tried to give em away, most people now days dont' want them. Not many people awake at 3:00am either. People only want the big gar and I have yet to see a big gar taken during a tournament.

I see. How about making a deal with a local asian market supply? But that might be illegal since the fish will end up being sold... hmmm... quite the dilemma.

I marvel at the marksmanship of these people, but it makes me sick to my stomach to see carp, buffalo, and gar rotting on the banks. Maybe your tournament members dispose of a fish properly but lots of them don't. They shoot the fish and toss it on the bank or back in the water. The only proper way to dispose of a fish is to eat it or release it unharmed back into the water.

As a member of Texas Bowfishing Association and
Bowfishing Association of America, myself and others
are trying to get the public perception of us back
into good light by not doing this ourselves as well as telling
others about the bad publicity this causes for our sport.
This does give us a black eye so to speak and we do not condone it. We are spreading the word about this and also letting everyone know about rendering plants, zoos, farmers and such that would gladly take the fish that you don't eat off your hands.

They make good garden fertilizer (carp and gar that is).

Texas Two Guns......I applaud your efforts.....This sport has come a long ways over the years because of people like you. Keep up the good work.

We used to sow them under in the fall then till the soil in the spring and we sold tomatoes and other veggies to the local farmers market.

I wish someone would shoot the grass carp in Lake Austin, but that would likely be illegal. Still, they are ruining the lake.

I want to publically withhold comment. While that may sound odd I want you guys to know that while I DO NOT support bowfishing, I'm not going to bash it either. I hope my fellow C&R carp anglers can do the same. We also get a black eye from attacking others that are within their legal rights to hunt as they choose. I would ask for reports on the size and numbers of fish taken WITHOUT photos. I think it would be informative for all.
