I just learnt that the hard way! And yeah my guess is that it was a lawn crew as that's all that really goes through the neighborhood. At least they weren't expensive tools but I like Hop's idea of setting another cheap set out there while I hide in the bushes!
Ive learned that if you didnt see it do go around assuming. Ive seen a folks get busted for stealing and blaming it on the help.

I had 1200 $ worth of lawn equipment and chainsaws stolen a few weeks ago. Roofers with illegals.

I'd keep an eye on my neighbors from now on. Wait a while. Set up a camera and put something out again.

Sorry to hear that HotRod. Where in VR do you live. I built a house on Wolf Creek in 96. Loved the neighborhood. Almost built another house in the newer part on the hill in 2008, but we backed out.

Thieves are everywhere maybe more prevalent in some areas than others but your valuables are not safe in the open or in a vehicle anywhere. Don't leave anything out in the open and get a decent car alarm...not the useless carp that is factory OEM on most vehicles.

What's the difference in car alarms? They don't stop thieves, just make annoying noise that everybody tries to ignore.

Contrary to what some people have said I do think that area has something to do with it. Not that HotRod is in a "bad area" but its near some very sketchy areas and if the Irving police want to tell you or not that area is very high for home break ins.

Lots of Indian and Pakistani folks in that part of town; they tend to have a lot of gold jewelry, its like a culture thing, they amass gold and tend to keep it unsecured in the home. A guy out casing houses for that type of plunder would for sure grab up a tool box left unattended on the street...See no one in my hood has gold bullion in their house, so we dont have people out casing areas.

Crooks know that and that area is hot for home break ins. Get an alarm if you dont have one, and use it, and make sure you have plenty of the stickers up on the windows and the yard sign etc. Lock the doors and windows, by far most break ins are through unlocked entries.

Pay those rabbits that all over the place to guard the house maybe too?

A buddy of mine lives in a $800k house in H-town, gated hood, armed security at the gate, etc., and his truck was broken into 3 times in his driveway. The 4th time, his truck was stolen outright. 2 blocks over from his hood is a ghetto. It doesn't matter much where you live, if it is a decent to nice place, thieves know where it is, and will likely visit you at some point.
