A 225 will hit 5600-5800 rpm with 24P easily with one cylinder not firing. Put a 26P on it like it needs and it won't turn 5200 with a dropped cylinder. It definitely could have a dropped cylinder. I have seen it many times. Could be the fuel pump diaphragm, bad injector, coil, fouled plug ect. If it lost 5 mph, first thing to do is do a compression test if its normal, then check for a cylinder not firing and so forth.

Its not going to run low to mid 70's with 24P Prop and a 225. It will take a 25P to run low 70's and a 26P Fury or a 27P Tempest to run mid 70's in cool weather. It will take a 250 and a 27P Fury to run 81-83ish on that boat That's Real World results from a long time Triton owner. What I told you above is from first hand experience. Not fishing forum opinion;) That advice will save you time and money...

have a 99 TX21 which is basically same hull as yours.
they changed in 2000 or 2001 i believe.
had same issues. 225 Opti and 10 inch hydraulic plate.
the 25 pitch Trophy 4 blade will not push the boat on the trailer and is slow out the hole.
the 26 Tempest pushes on the trailer with no problem and is better out the hole.
they both run about the same speed.
i run two holes open and one has a 3/8 hole size plug in it.
i run heavy loaded ALL THE TIME.
i get about 68-72 depending on conditions at about 5500 rpm

I love the smell of 2 stroke in the morning !!!

The boat is at the shop now. It has broken reeds. They're trying to figure out how bad it is. Not good news but it definitely explains the lack of power. Thanks for the help guys.

Oh boy... I hope one of the reed petals hasn't gone into a cylinder and scored it. That could be costly.

Good luck bud.
