When you do the online portion and it asks why you would not be able to do it tell them you're a one woman business owner and it would cause you to lose money and customers.
The bailiffs at Tarrant county have a conscience. They let me out of mine a few months ago once I answered the question "Are you of sound judgement and character?" with " My preemie baby just came home from the hospital. I am sleep deprived and bitter. I am not of sound judgment or good character."

Been sitting here waiting in this god forsaken hallway since 8am. They just broke for lunch and I still haven't seen the inside of a courtroom. They haven't begun the jury selection process.

I took some pre-law classes and ended up majoring in criminal justice. It truly amazes me we are still using the "jury of your peers" system. Our legal system is so clogged up, corrupt, and back logged it ain't funny. I feel we need professional jurors. I feel jurors with a high level of knowledge of law, whether it be criminal, civil, family, constitutional, would be more effective in the roles of juror and not easily swayed by the gamesmanship of slick lawyers. They would also be able to hear more cases and get some relief on the dockets. The entire legal system needs overhauling IMO. The jury system would be a good place to start. My wife is an Attorney. Through her I know several Attorneys and a number of Judges. To a person they all think the idea of Professional Jurors is a horrible idea. You want to talk about a way to corrupt the system? In that small a pool how long would it take for some collusion to make sure that certain Jurors get sat in a particular Court or always sit on a trial with a particular Attorney?

I just got done with a four month stint on a Federal Grand Jury in Bexar County. I actually really enjoyed it, though I learned more than I ever need about the bad stuff going on in the Western District of Texas.

You could say that the entire voir dire process is just that. The attorneys are trying to keep only the people who they think can be influenced in their favor.

One of the advantages of being old is I don't have to serve, besides, I served more than enough.
Biden famously said in the New York Observer, โI mean, you got the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy. I mean, thatโs a storybook, man.โ

Yes, but both sides get to do that so there is sort of a meeting in the middle.

Mother in Law was on the jury for Larry Flynt in the Porn indecent by community standards lawsuit. She got to watch over 40 hours of the best flicks available! Not bad for a 64 year old Baptist, English teacher. Said she never had any idea that people did that sort of thing! huh?

They finally got done with us around 4pm. Just got home from all this foolishness. I've worked long hard days that left me less exhausted than this nonsense. Lost a full day of sales from having nobody on the phone.
