I have TXU free nights and it works out well for me. I leave my place at 0630 and shut everything off including A/C. Home around 7pm and crank everything back up. After a few beers on the patio it's quite comfortable inside. Mind you I'm in an 800sf apartment so it works for me. Last month was 58 bucks and have had many around $40. what do you actually pay per kWh? I've had $40 electric bills in my 1600 sq ft house this year

If your actual night/day ratio is 75/25 then you're probably right. I'd be interested to see what the actual average rate people with this plan are paying, dividing their bill by the total number of kWh they use. Once you take the TDU pass through charges into account that plan costs $15.20 + $0.171/kWh used between 5am and 8pm. I think if you use 1000kWh or less per month (total), you would be better off with this plan

TXU makes their money off the elderly who don't understand electric choice and who still believe TXU is "the electric company". No one who shops rates would end up with any TXU plan as even a top 10 choice to consider. This doesn't explain how people fall for the 1 cent per KWH scams. The gov site that is supposed to be a resource and help continues to allow the low KWH scams with the high fees to flourish. I only have one choice as I live in a CO-OP. All the fees and charges are very clearly published in the EFL. I don't see any problem with it Some of those plans can still work out in your favor under the right circumstances The plans are not comparable without a kilowatt usage by month and a spreadsheet. I reviewed the fixed rate 1 year plans for my zip code. I thought I knew which plan I wanted but built an Excel model and dropped in my previous 12 months of kilowatt usage as a forecast of what my next 12 months of usage was going to be. I was surprised to find out that the plan that had a $.001 lower advertised rate was about $300 more over the course of the year. They show the rates if you use exactly 500 KW, 1000 KW and 2000 KW but their plans are much more complicated. I probably spent half a day building models for different plans and plugging in data. I was pretty happy with the results. I am paying 6.4 cents per kilowatt hour during the high use summer months. My most recent electric bill was $161 for a 16 year old 3000 sq. foot house.

What TXU does should be against the law. How can they claim free nights when they double or triple the rate for the rest of the day to offset. Only the mathematically challenged should ever fall for this scheme. I think the same thing when I see auto dealers advertising buy 3 tires a get one free. At least buy 3 get one free is a real 25% discount. not when they jack up the price of the 3 first

I contend this whole "deregulation" thing has been a scam.
How many of these providers actually produce electricity? So, the vast majority buy electricity from the producers and sell it to the customers for less than the electricity providers can, all while running through the same transmission lines as before. You add another layer to the process which adds no value. They don't produce electricity, or deliver electricity, yet this is supposed to save money? All they handle is billing. Nothing here that will actually lower costs. So they come up with gimmicks and contracts that sound good.
Stupid deal.

Stupid deal. yeah but without it we would be at the mercy of TXU. As far as Champion goes they lied me when I signed with them 1-1/2 years ago. I will probably go with Source next renewal. I wonder what we would be paying without de-regulation? The delivery side has gone up by about 3x since deregulation. Only the lower REP rates have offset it. I thought we were3 supposed to benefit from smart meters but it looks like Oncor is the only one that is.

I have TXU Free Nights, for about 4 years now. No problems here.
Set the AC at 75 when me and my boy leave in the morning. Set it to 72 when we get home. Our house is about 1600 sq ft.
Monthly bill has been on average about $70-$80 a month. Which is about the same when we were living in our 600 sq ft apartment a year ago.
This plan works for ME, as there's nobody home except the 2 cats during the day. So if there's somebody at your home most of the day, it more than likely wont work for you.

TXU is a scam period. They consistently show up as one of the lowest on powertochoose. But the fine print usually shows that it is the rate for the first 500kw.

TXU's normal plan is not bad. I had to go to page 2 to find it. There are better for sure (Reliant, Discount Power, 4Change...)
