Mike Long caught her first then Jed Dickerson caught her in May '03.

In March '05 Jed caught her again and she went 25 lbs 1 oz on national television.

She was found floating dead by the park ranger in May 2008 so I would say she was uninjured by the handling almost three years prior.

Oh, but she weighed a lot less when she was found dead, due to a broken jaw from holding her like that roflmao

she did weigh less but her jaw was fine.

Slightly disagree with some of y'all.
Let the record stand- that is one of the most famous if not the most famous record in all of fishing.
Japan tie is legit of course.
I'm more skeptical of Dotty fish than anything really- not to get too detailed but I have concerns there.
With the Perry fish, lots of details missing but back then nobody cared nearly as much as now so there was less reason to tamper with weight. Historically, about 22 lb is as big as they can possibly get so his number makes sense there.

I agree with you, Doc. GP's fish should stand. One must assume that the IGFA verified as much data on the catch as was available at that time. If the IGFA recognizes GP's fish, that's good enough for me. There certainly isn't any valid way to go back to 1932 and un-verify the data.

It's interesting how everyone sees it differently. I guess I've always been a skeptic at heart. I know Doug Hannon the bass professor investigated the fish extensively, and he never bought the story. To me it seems the only evidence is "why would Perry lie?" People have many different motivations. That's a low bar to accept as a burden of proof.

Doc, what are you concerns with Dottie? I was under the impression her weights were incredibly well documented.

I live a few miles from where perrys supposed record came from. I do not believe it should stand. It is highly suspect and extremely unlikely that a bass of that size came from this region

Here's a bit more on the history of Perry's fish and how it was certified.

Its just hard to tell how different the region was, 80+years ago. Obviously living there now, you probably have a better idea on the fishing than most of us.

I'm sorry. That part about Dottie came out wrong. I don't want to portray anybody in a negative way.
I just thought the Perry record should stand that's all.

There is more proof bigfoot than of Perrys record.

If I recall Perry entered another big bass in a contest and won a shotgun or something. That fish was said to be 13 or 14 and I heard they think that is the fish in the picture with the boy.

I dont recall. I read about it in "Sowbelly".

Dang good book and covers this topic at length.
