I like my Fords. I have a 7.3 and a 6.7. There is no comparison between the two, the 6.7 will out preform the 7.3 in every aspect.

I'd like to start booking trips now!
I just bought a Tundra 4 months ago with 30,000 miles on it now and I can tell you that I have no plans on buying anything else unless things change with GM. I'm sure the tundra would more than do what you are trying to handle. I pull a trailer with two, 1000 lb mowers to the farm every weekend and I can barely tell its back there. Pulls amazing and stops just as well. I contemplated diesel but the DEF made me stick with gas. Happy I did. FYI the crew cab 5.3 tundras come with a 38 gallon tank now.

My tundra pulls a 7000# trailer on a daily basis. It only has 198000 miles now . I am not afraid to pull that trailer any where in the US.

A 3/4 ton will handle it easy (as mentioned earlier a 1/2 ton should also) but a 3/4 ton should have more braking surface giving you better stopping ability. Unless you just want a diesel a gas engine can pull that load easily. I have a 3/4 ton diesel and a 1 ton gas (6.2) and I tell ya that 6.2 gas is nothing to sneeze at. It won't pull like a diesel but I pull some heavy loads with it and I don't have to go to the bank when I need to change the oil in it either. Good luck to you....I hate buying vehicles.
To whom much is given, much is required.

I'd check with Brian Spagnola at Texas Motorcars Lane. He is where I buy mine. 214-732-7859 unless you are wanting new and I think he told me can help with that too.

They say it will be available in the 2017 model; same Cummins V8 diesel that Nissan Titan has had for a year or so.

Laner, if you're looking at new, my son just bought a 23' fishing pontoon and a new Silverado 1500 4X4 to pull it and he says it pulls the 'toon like there's nothing back there. IDK if this might be "Apples to Oranges" but thought I'd put it out there for you. Good Luck with whatever you decide.

I am hoping you are right..But the dealers are saying no ...and there is no mention of it on any forums Just found this article 2017 Toyota Tundra diesel Cummins, changes, news NEW TOYOTA TUNDRA 2017 DIESEL CUMMINS Dont overlook its power. The new Toyota Tundra 2017 should include a more powerful engine with better fuel efficacy. In accordance to rumors, this car will use a V8 engine with 5.0-liter capacity. It may produce at least 300 horsepower with more than 500 pound-feet of torque. This is a good improvement when compared to the previous style. Plus, the car runs at 6 auto transmission in the rear-wheel drivetrain. Theres a possibility that the car will use a 4WD system. With this power, you can feel the pride when driving new Tundra around your neighborhood later. What can be more comfortable than a car with a powerful engine? When it comes to engine Toyota announced that diesel Cummins engines wont be in their vehicles in the US. Reason for that decision is too much cost for adaptation to strict environmental standards.

I am a retired farmer and still fisherman. I have used both Ford and Dodge Diesels since 1980's. I have migrated to the Dodge for work as they have been more trouble free though the Ford was a good work horse too. The dodge is much easier to start on cold mornings and the Cummin engine is just great. Neither ever burned oil, after about 250,000 miles. The 3/4 ton is certainly enough for pulling a center console boat but I have ton that I use for a heavier travel trailer, and like it much better.

I have had a Dodge 2500 with the Cummins. It was a very good truck with good performance. But I now own a Ford F250 with the 6.7L engine, and nothing pulls like it. Pulling ability, power, torque, ride....you name it and the Ford 6.7L does it. It will be the last truck that I will ever buy

I have a 2006 Dodge Ram 2500 with the Cummings Diesel.
It has 97,000 miles on it.
First major issue that I had to have corrected on it was one fuel injector went bad and a water pump. Repaired last month. 97,000 miles first major repair that I needed to have performed. I'd say that is pretty darn good track record.
I run Michelin Tires on it. Michelin is all I run on all my vehicles. It's a 4X2. If I had to do it over I would get a 4X4. I change the oil and keep the fluids topped off. Works great.
The only other issue I had was with my air conditioning on the passenger side. Have had issues with it off and on since the day I bought the truck brand new. It's been to the dealer 4 times and still never seemed to EVER get rectified.
Well last month decided to try a guy here in MCKINNEY off Highway 380 at a place called POWERFLO Diesel. While he was replacing my injector and my water pump I asked him to look at my air conditioning. It took him a week but he finally found out what was wrong and FIXED IT!!! All I know is my AC has never worked right since the day I bought it and finally a guy that has a clue got to the bottom of it and fixed it. Come to find out it wasn't working for the entire truck the way it was supposed to. Don't ask me what he did...I don't know. All I know is my AC will put frost on the Windows now. If you have a a diesel I can recommend POWERFLO Diesel in McKinney.
So, other than the above issues my Dodge drives like a champ. Very happy with the purchase.
Best of luck Lane finding the truck that fits your needs the best.
My uncle is a retired Dodge Mechanic 25 years and he stated the truck would go out before my Cummings.
Oh and the owner of POWERFLO told me they replace more Fuel Injectors on Fords than any other brand for what it's worth.

I pull a 22' center console around all the time with my 1500, no problem at all. If you do go 3/4 ton, I would go with a diesel over gas. Honestly, I don't think you need it.
