Good advice ty. I am surprised a bit, you say treble hooks. I use circle hooks to keep from gut hooking cats so I can CPR them. I switched from trebles because I was gut hooking too many of them. Different fish anatomy I suppose. Thanks Again.


Most Alligator gar guys let the fish take the bait deep with a treble hook, which results in the majority or gar being released with the hook still in them. They use non stainless hooks hoping that they rust out before causing the fish damage. I think you're going to have a very tough time landing them with circle hooks, as the "no hookset" isn't suited to a gar's bony snout, the circle hook with most often fail to penetrate properly to hold them while thrashing or jumping.
