They ran great with no real sign of problems till they came apart, oil pressure was lower due to age but still good with no rattling. They started swapping them out if they got to 210-220,000 to keep from having them breakdown on the road.

These were in medium size step vans running 200-300 miles a day, 6 days a week loaded one way. Except for the fuel mileage they were one of the better engines but couldn't come close to the 7.3 P/S.

Went thru 2 or 3 4L80E trannys through the life of the engine though......something else to consider when going from diesel to gas. Its hard to beat an Allison or Ford transmission thats used behind a diesel for reliability...

It's an '08 Dodge Cummins with the 6.7L. Not pre-emmision but it's been deleted and tuned.

I hate to give it up but it's more of a financial decision than anything. Long story but my wife more or less lost her job when I was in the hospital for a month and she was already pregnant with our 5th kiddo. If she hadn't lost her job due to the owners selling the company she would have been able to take the baby to work with her. Not really going to find a company like that again more than likely. So she's staying at home with all of them again and we need to downsize to help ease the burden.

I can sell the truck, which no longer fits the family, and pay off the Suburban. Then I can buy something that is more reasonable for me. I don't have a big 5th wheel like we used to and I will have a work van again when I go back to no-restrictions at work. All I need it for is the bed for hauling some feed and hay, towing my utility trailer with a small tractor and towing the boat. Diesel is KING but not a necessity anymore.

Sounds like they were worked pretty hard. Out of curiosity, were these the older 6.0L? I think sometime around '07 or so they went to a different block design but I might be wrong on that.

Sounds to me like your getting rid of the diesel to save money, I just think going from your truck to a crew cab 4x4 half ton isn't going to save you much(assuming the '08 is paid for)

I've honestly had no complaints with my Dodge. That's surprising because I expected to just given the reputation that Dodge has. I really bought it for the Cummins! I've had more interior squeaks and rattles and other annoyances with my newer Suburban. Really irks me but it's the best vehicle for what my family and I need and what we like to do.
I think the fit/finish on the 4th gen '09 and up 1500 Ram trucks is waaaaay better than the 3rd gen Ram. My nephew bought one with 89k on the clock and it still feels brand new. But not all will be that lucky......I know the Hemi is probably one of the poorer gas mileage trucks out there. Always has been. Runs great but guzzles fuel almost as bad as my Suburban.

For whatever it's worth, my dad's had two cummins and loves them. Maybe I'm just lucky.

It's close to being paid for but not quite. But given current market I can do some juggling and selling it would net me enough to pay off the highest payment. Thus getting rid of 2 payments more or less. Then I can buy a nice used truck for a lot less than what I was paying for both of them........

Not sure about the design but they were after 2007, pretty sure we started running them in 2009. They were worked hard but not abused, worked probably at least twice as hard as the average truck, but probably with at least twice as good maintenance. These particular trucks that blew up were primarily used over the road.

Truthfully, it would be very hard for me to give up the Cummins, especially if you are hauling hay and tractors. Its got so much more life than a gas engine and transmission, not to mention the mileage.

Believe me it is. If it weren't strictly a financial decision then I probably wouldn't do it. Love my truck but it's hard to justify keeping it and the payment around when I can get ahead very quickly by following through with our plans.

I can see where you are coming from. I sold a 2010 6.7 cummins. I really sold it because my wife couldn't drive a standard, but I also no longer needed the truck and it did put some green back in my pocket, which was nice.
