I watched a fella almost launch his boat yesterday without removing his tie downs.

Monday we fished Grapevine till noon then left. As I'm waiting for the trailer to back in I see a recreational boat arriving from main road. The guy doesn't stop just pulls in the high water ramp and starts backing it in. I can see the straps so I'm thinking, great he is going to unstrap and fiddle with the boat on the ramp. Nope just keeps on going all the way in. Stops looks in mirror then backs it in farther. I'm trying to focus on loading my boat on the trailer and then his trailer and boat start drifting toward my boat which is now on the trailer. I tell my driver go go go urgently and then politely inform the man that his trailer is floating and I believe he forgot to unstrap the boat. Felt bad for him, so embarrassing. He handled it as best as possible. Its been somewhat of a tradition for me to go fish a half day then stay and watch for a while. First stumbled on this years ago when I saw a family try to launch a six figure twin engine boat with pretty hot pink prop covers still on. Same deal, left it strapped to trailer with prop covers on. Almost pulled the tow vehicle into the water when he fired it up and put it in reverse.

The boat ramp can be a very entertaining place sometimes.

If it was easy, everyone would do it

I sold my jet skies because 8 out of 10 people didn't understand to slow down that there was no brake. And didn't want to pay for damages.

Apparently the operator didn't know about speed brakes, or maybe that option wasn't installed on that PWC?

Next time, tell her your outboard is a diesel and send her out to buy new spark plugs for it.

One day at Harbor Bay I watched a (not to be named) Mavericks player pull up with 2 friends and go bass fishing around the marina. I swore they must have pulled into Bass Pro Shop and said... give me everything we need to go fishing, new boat, equipment etc. Anyway after about an hour they came back in and had no idea on how to put the boat back on the trailer. Even jumped the front roller and hit the back gate on the SUV when they backed the trailer in too far. This was about an hour of laughs until they finally got off the ramp.

I'm not gonna laugh too loud; I've messed up a few times at the ramp.

I've had a few bloopers at the ramp in my day as well but I'll leave those for another day! My son and I fished Ivie last weekend. On Saturday we headed back to the ramp about 2:30 cuz the son was famished as teenagers get every 3 hours. I just beached the boat and told him I'd wait while he went and got one elm creeks amazing burgers! So as I'm sitting there I started watching the ramp for amusement and there was plenty! The funniest thing I seen was an oldtimer drive his utv down the ramp and off to the side and back it into viewing position, get a beer out of his ice chest and prepare for the show!!! Looked like he was at the drive in movies or something!! He probably went back to catching fish Tuesday morning bright and early after the circus left town!

Myself and a friend of mine were fishing Hubbard Creek Lake about 30 years ago in a tournament. We had caught a very good stringer,,,yes stringer with some good 4-5 lb bass on it. This was before Florida bass.
Anyway, we just pulled the boat up to the shore line at Peeler Pier ramp and flopped that big stringer of fish over the side just as another bass club member was loading his friends boat on to his trailer.
He was going way to fast anyway, but all he could do was look at those fish and talk to us about what we caught them on. Meanwhile, he hit the trailer too hard, the boat went up and over the front winch and into the back of the other guy's truck camper.
The boat driver shall remain nameless, but he worked at a hardware store in Mineral Wells.
I felt sorry for the guy because after I picked myself up off the ground from laughing so hard, I noticed there were about fifty people standing around doing the same thing while waiting for weigh-in.

Years later, I saw a guy pick up his troll motor battery and was standing on the dock holding it with one leg on the dock and the other on his boat. Yep, you guessed it, as he was talking, the boat was separating from the dock. He dropped the battery in the lake and fell in as well, and this was during winter.

Sometimes, us fishermen aren't too smart!
