I wonder what bait they used....? They do like to chase buzzbaits.

That gator shown was actually caught further south, near Baytown I believe. I lived in Palestine for about 10 years and have seen too many gators to count in the local lakes/ponds/creeks as well as on RC, Palestine, and CC. Just stay aware of your surroundings and leave them be and all will be fine.

txminnow,
Be careful about your dog too! When we were in Florida the gators there would make a extra effort to come up on the bank for dogs, especially barking ones.

BBrown- You're right about the dogs. I've heard many stories about how a gator flipped a dog off a dock with its tail. On land a dog would probably be able to get away, but in the water it has no chance.

That gator was not caught in Palenstine, Athens, or Baytown. It was caught in a creek of the brazos river near columbia texas. my parents live near by there, and it was in their newspaper years ago. there has been a phoney email going around for the past few years. everytime i get that email, it seems to report a different location.

Yeah, COFF, when I was living in Florida and hunting and fishing there, we heard stories of the illegal gator hunters down that way paying good money for dogs that barked a lot. They would go out at night and tie them to trees just up from the bank and get them to barking and wait for the gator to crawl up the bank to get the dog.
Then they would bust them and not have to enter the water to locate them.
They were getting a pretty penny for the hides back then. And the smaller ones ate pretty good too! Or so they tell me.

bout 2 years ago first report i have heard of a gator in the main lake in ray hubbard. estimated 10' taken by officials off the small beach area at chandlers landing, started alot of talk around the town with all the darn wakeboarders. But as for us, a buddy and i have seen one on shore at the shores by the big concrete pillar about 3 feet on the bank and had what we believe one roll of the west bank just shy of the 66 bridge in a night tourney. never had a problem with them, but watch out. spent a lot of time on florida and seen the big guys, they can be dangerous if encountered the wrong way.

There are gators all over the DFW area. But leave them alone, and they'll leave you alone! Unlike some species of crocodile, Alligators very rarely attack humans unless the humans are messing with them first. Pets, and children are a different story, but just be careful.
The gators were here first after all lol. They were native to all our local rivers, including every branch of the Trinity, way before were here.
And they're protected by law. no they r fun to watch. i see gators all the time. i torment them by dancing around and yelling "woooo! woo! woooo! yieeeeeeee!" they get purty agrevated and they look at u out the corner they eye playfully and then they run at u. but they run with a waddle. and i run off a little then laugh at them. then i do it again. its a game we play. they like it. i sometime bring them food for when i see them. hotdog, chicken, shrimp.
